    Finance minister hands in resignation

Finance Minister Antonio Palocci, the architect of Brazil's economic recovery and market-friendly fiscal policy, resigned Monday after becoming caught up in a political scandal.

Palocci sent a resignation letter Monday evening to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Silva accepted the resignation, said presidential spokesman Carlos Villanova.

Palocci faces accusations he frequented a house in Brasília where lobbyists held parties with prostitutes and money arrived by the suitcase, possibly for payoffs.

    He denies the accusations.

    Hey SA,

Looks like your boy is just a cosmic hitchhiker. Russian rocket with a Russian-US crew. The only thing Brazilian is your "astronaut".

Jem: I would bet a company like IBM could put a man on the moon faster than Brazil.

    *********

    April 1, 2006

SouthAmerica: I don’t think so. You are thinking about the IBM of the past – the computer company.

Today IBM’s major specialty is to export good paying American jobs to cheaper labor markets such as China, India, and so on. Today IBM is nothing more than an outsourcing company on steroids.

    **********

Sputdr: Even Europe admits the US is 50 years ahead technologically – than Africa.

I wonder where that leaves Brazil?

    *******

SouthAmerica: The Brazilian space program started in 1961 – you can read about what Brazil had accomplished by 1998 at the following website. Since then the program has moved forward by leaps and bounds.

The Brazilian Space Program Sounding Rockets and Satellite Launching Vehicles

    http://www.iae.cta.br/brazilianspaceprogram.htm

By the way, everybody knows that today the US space program is in shambles – you don’t have to look further than the various US Shuttle fiascos. The highlight of an American space launching today is: if the old Shuttles are going to explode in the way up or in the way down.

I wonder what John Kennedy would think of what is going on today in the US space program – when the US needs to send an American into space they have to ask for a ride on a Russian spaceship.

If that is not a sign of decadence – Then I don’t know what decadence means.

But President Bush decided to do something drastic to show to the world that the United States still is a leader in space and he will show to the world that the US means business with his next major US space project. George W. Bush had a great idea – he decided it is time for the United States to land a men in the “Sun.”

Some people asked him how the US will be able to do such a thing? And people brought to his attention that it is very hot in the surface of the Sun.

Bush said that his advisors had solved that problem (the same advisors that he has been listening to their suggestions regarding Iraq, and the Middle East) – They figured out a way to land an American in the Sun – They will try to land the US spaceship on the sun during the night when it is cooler.

  6. this thread is so amusing.

SA, the days of propaganda ended during the cold war. Americans are far too jaded and cynical to care about someone else's space ambitions. Give it up.

You pump brazil like it is an OTC stock.

sa - give it up dude!

you wont win this one. not because you are wrong.....

but because you are dealing with some of the most ignorant mother fuckers that lurk on this site.

half of them have never been out side of their home state, let alone ever left the usa. from their opinions, it is clear most of them are just a bunch of ignorant red necks. dont waste your precious time trying to open their eyes.

a typical example is their attitudes to the ex-soviet 'commie-reds' (russia). few of them actually understand that the russians were streets ahead in their ideas than the yanks - yet they just dont see it or understand why!

brazil (more to the point) is also streets ahead in terms of its understanding of modern fuel technology and implementing than the usa will be. the end result is americas admitted addiction to oil and its inability to see its way out of the mess because of its love with money and power - which funnily enough is the reason why america is on the verge of decline.

btw: i have seen posts that are condescending, ignorant, and rude (ie just show how pig fucking ignorant people are here) towards brazils supposedly '3rd world status'. may i remind you dweebs that THE WORLD HAS SEEN NEW ORLEANS AND THE WORLD NOW KNOWS THAT PEOPLE THERE (BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER KATRINA) LIVE IN THIRD WORLD CONDITIONS. lol - you see those slums!!! only in america!

america still murders its own prisoners (death penalty). the only other countries that do this are the rag heads, the commies, and other NON DEMOCRATIC countries.

i have spent long periods in both the usa and brazil. without question, i would rather live in brazil.

    USA! USA!! USA!!!!

i would say the apex of stupidity is your failure to appreciate history.

i take it you can read - and have some level of education - or did you buy your degree like everyone else in the states? (in the uk, degrees are awarded on merit and ability - not how rich daddy is!)

seeing as you are as ignorant as a fence post i will enlighten you this once:

every nation has its day, gets over confident, and then has its demise. the uk had an empire - something that no one else ha ever managed to match - yet we got too big for our boots, and lost it (long story - you wouldnt understand anyway). same with portugal, spain, france, italy, greece, etc. all had magnificent empires in their day.

anyway - the point im getting to is america almost got there - but not quite. america is now good as finished. the end. period. 5-10 years ago everyone loved america, now america is hated the world over (well done bush!).

america has no more friends, and china has you by the short and curlies.

america = OWNED! get used to it kid.

america is almost finished. in 20 years you will be asking argentina for money.

the writing is on the wall.

so please drop this superior 'america is the greatest' attitude. every non american - and most americans with a brain is laaarfing at you. you are making your self look sooooo stooopid its untrue.

now, fuck off, and go get an education !

Ahead in ideas after murdering tens of millions of their own people?? You have to be mad to say that. I work with two people that grew up with the tender mercies of communism as their nurse maid in Romaina. Both of them are stunted in growth due to lack of nutrition in child hood. Shithole cultures that murder and starve their people are examples of BAD ideas, not good ones. Right behind them are the cultures that keep their people in a workfare state of imprisonment with "social programs" to "help" them.
