I have family in Mali, mostly all they grow is cotton and peanuts. Did you check out that Reuters Africa site? I haven't kept up with it. The maize crop could start to be very interesting. Most who overplanted corn this year in USA will probably go back to beans next year. My family in Iowa is not the least bit worried, they say this happens every 20 years and times have been very good recently and they have crop insurance.
