Brazil is too busy allowing their citizens to kidnap foreign children to run an effective economy. This is a great and shocking story to read if you have the time. Thankfully there was a happy ending. It's sinful what the Brazilian Government did to this family.

I did not read the article or various views on the thread. But for the BRIC countries I would say that it is the 'New Economic Confidence' rather than the new economic miracle.

In the case of Brazil and India this confidence is based more on the internal demand which is good.

In the case of China it is largely based on the demand from the US, EU and other nations seeking lower priced good even at an inferior quality ratings.

In the case of Russia, it is merely based on the prices of oil and energy.

Where US faulted was the missed opportunity to save $100-200 Billion a year in the defense budget from 1991 onwards when the Soviet Union failed and its phantom power well exposed. Now matters are soooooo deep into the rot that only a miracle can clean the US financial books.............miracle in hyperinflation??? seems that was the plan all along anyways ;-)

    :D

  4. my confidence in Brazil is that they are a net exporter of oil, in addition to huge supplies of natural resources/ fresh water.

  5. lol.. that story is so funny.. in Brazil people laugh at the idea that Sean wants to go live with his biological father in a poop hole apartment in New Jersey, when his family in Brazil is RICH.

the U.S media make it sound like he was being held hostage in the jungle with monkeys.. lol.. the kid had 3 maids! his life will be trash in NJ. the Brazilian government was trying to protect Sean from a life of mediocrity. all it took was hillary clinton to lay the pipe down and brazil backed away..

The quality of life for rich people is much greater.

SouthAmerica: In November 2007 I posted the following on the ET economics forum:

In November of 2007 I was watching the Larry King Show on CNN cable and he was interviewing the Police Commissioner of 3 major towns, I believe they were New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, and this is what they were talking about: “Today the United States has more than 2 million people who belong to gangs all across the United States – and at the same time the United States has only 1.8 million policemen to keep these guys in check.

These gangs used to be concentrated on large cities, but in the last few years they started moving all over the place including your neighborhood.”

When I was going for my PhD at Fordham University in the Bronx (New York City) – When I was driving around the area where Fordham University is located the place looked like a war zone in the Congo.

I have been going very frequently over the years to the Brazilian restaurants in Newark, New Jersey – and there are parts of Newark that are as dangerous as the worst parts of Rio de Janeiro.

There are many ghettos around the United States in fast declining areas like Detroit, Cleveland, parts of Los Angeles, parts of New York City, parts of Newark, parts of Washington D.C., parts of Philadelphia, and so on…

    SouthAmerica: Reply to 3770HMS

We both can play the cut and paste game to show the problems with each others' country.

It would be very easy for me to find all kind of information and pictures on the web, with decaying neighborhoods and massive poverty around the country to show how the United States is becoming just like Zimbabwe.

Anyway, here is a reality check regarding recent US history.

And with a history like that the US mainstream media still has the nerve of criticizing Tiananmen Square in China.
