"Bowling for Columbine"

  1. More innocent people are killed in homes with handguns than are intruders with handguns.

So if you own a gun, it is more likely that one of your loved ones will be killed by it than someone who breaks into your home.

Based on this fact alone, I wouldn't want to own a gun in my home.

  2. I also think I can easily overwhelm an intruder (most of them are scrawny and undernourished) who breaks into my house with my bare hands, so no need for a gun.

  3. So the Mav-man was volunteering down at the soup kitchen, passing out soup and stuff to the less fortunate, and this guy comes up to him, and says that he is a liberal, and starts telling him all kinds of liberal secrets, and even what Sen. Clinton is going to do, and it was just awful.

So Mav-man called the police, and the local GOP office, and 30 of his closest friends, so you know it's just got to be true. Boy, I don't know about you, but I sure am glad that we have people like him who terrorists and bad guys and liberals confide in so he can tell us here all about it. Aren't you?

I have a German shepherd...pity the fool who tries to come in.

  5. You better check the statistics.
This is NOT true, it's a myth propagated by the anti-gun lobby.

These "facts" are usually arrived at by including suicides in their numbers.

  6. Not to nit pick....but since you said IS NOT TRUE ...shouldn't you provide the stats?..instead of telling him to do the leg work?

  7. You have it backwards.

HE asserted and did not provide stats.

Then I mentioned that this information is based on flawed numbers.

I don't even have to provide anything since he has a
completely unsupported claim and HE MADE THE ASSERTION.
The burden of proof is on him.

    But I will anyway.

The flawed number usually come from the infamous Kellermann
report which incorrectly includes suicide statistics.

Also... compared to other deadly accidents, firearms are statistically quite safe:

Look at the chart on this page.

The anti-gun lobby has very little to stand on and must rely
on rhetoric, propaganda, and bad numbers to support their non-position.

  8. Not to nit pick even further....but, why would you NOT include suicide??? Obviously the gun offers a much quicker solution....not many people stab themselves to death.

  9. Kleck researched this an showed no correlation between suicide
    deaths and gun ownership.

Suicidal people kill themselves at the same rate regardless
of wether or not a gun is present.

The only difference is, when a gun is present, they tend
to choose the gun as their method of suicide, otherwise they
just JUMP or use another effective method.

But the anti-gun lobby tries to use this number to show
that guns are NOT effective against intruders.

The opposite is true. Guns ARE effective in self defense.

Therefore, since suicide is not relevant, and guns are effective,
it would be foolish to claim that you should not own a gun
in the home because you think it raises the probability
    of you being killed.

  10. Excuse me....but if the handgun is used for the suicide, I'd say the fact that the handgun was in the house contributed to the death of the individual in the house.
