Bought a fancy new Dell and it sucks

  1. Did you buy that 5820 I highlighted for you? That was a particularly good "upscale" deal, but ANY 5820 with enough HP for anyone's trading needs would be a smart purchase. (I showed that same workstation to another ETer, but he opted for a different 5820 with less upscale. He didn't get as good a deal on a relative basis, but he still got a good one while saving $100-ish.)

Return it if not happy, then go grab a legion tower 5 from micro center for 600 bucks.

Yours is under warranty. Go contact the Dell service provider.

  5. When I had my T3500 Precision workstations running on W7, I also had a Precision laptop. When I upgraded to W10 and Precision T5810, I got another Precision laptop. Has 16GB RAM, 5GB video card, NVME storage/drive, UHD display, and 3-year warranty, just like a new one. Cost $350... would have cost $2,500+ if new.

    Uhh no, not at all.

Ferrari and Toyota have their own IP in the form of engines/transmissions/suspensions.

Dell has no such thing in most major components like CPU, memory, hard drives & motherboards.

Dell has a good name/rep, especially over garbage like HP. Very little else.

    But nonetheless base is base.

I used to have 3 Dell laptops. Every time I buy a Dell I hope this time it will be fine. I was wrong every time.
The last time I bought it was a year ago. It had problems with a mouse pad, and after a week of trying to fix it, I gave up and bought an external mouse.
About 3 months later its motherboard went broke out of the blue. The technician said it would cost more than half of the price of the laptop to fix it.
Threw it in the trash can. Never again.

  8. Dell's very best line of computers is Precision workstations. I've had Dells for years, had zero disappointments with them and recommend only that line.... and not even ALL of that line. Dell has put the 36xx line in with their REAL workstations.. a deceptive marketing ploy... the 3600's are NOT up to quality. If you're buying a Dell Precision workstation, look for something 58xx or better. An off-lease Dell Precision 5820 is like buying a 2-year old Lexus vs a new Yugo for the same money.

I had a custom built with 3090Ti and 128GB Ram, it was noisy, kept crashing and/or overheating. Downgraded to Legion Tower 5 gaming tower, a modest 3050 with 32GB Ram, works perfectly and quieter than the A/C in the room.
