Don't know if this is a rabbit hole (on what I envision)...I also see a real driver in the truck (last mile). I can see a robot grabbing the package, delivering it to the front doorstep, recording the delivery, going back into the truck, and grabbing the next package for delivery. The robots have presorted the truck and (maybe two in the truck) and are doing 95% of the deliveries. They will recharge themselves between breaks by the human driver... PS The robots can also deliver themselves. They would bring back the old ones (from the house) for service. Thinking of how robots are used for the elderly in Japan and for hospitals in the US for delivery... Could you see some of those "distribution centers" turned into "robotic service centers"!! From the 70's...Dude, my mind is blown!!
Instead of having the service tech picking up the robot (for service)...Tug (or the robot) drives/walks into the truck to get serviced. https://aethon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/healthcare_box_video.mp4 PS Unless you're Luke stuck in the middle of nowhere (Tatooine/Modesto), working on servicing those suckers...
