Interestingly I just watched the movie Quicksilver about a pit trader who lost his parent's money trading options. Takes a hiatus. In the end he borrows his friend's money and trades again and makes some money back and repays (a portion I suppose?) back to the parents.
I took advantage of a credit card offer when aapl was trading around 70 bucks. The offer was interest free for 12 months so i bought 1k shares. It's split a few times since then and the rest is history I won't recommend anyone do this but if you do, understand your risk and payback plan.
