(The Chart Report) Today’s Chart of the Day was shared by Arun Chopra (@FusionptCapital). It’s a 15-min candlestick chart of AMTD Digital ($HKD) since its public debut on July 15th. The stock has gone parabolic, surging nearly 13,000% from $13 to $1,679 in less than a month. At one point today, this little-known company surpassed Facebook in market cap. It’s also suspicious that $HKD’s parent company, $AMTD, has a terrible track record underwriting IPOs. This reminds us of something that the legendary technician, Bob Farrell, once said – “Parabolic advances usually go further than you think, but they do not correct by going sideways.” In other words, this thing could continue higher in the short term, but once the momentum disappears, it will likely drop as fast as it rose.
That’s incorrect - some brokers have that policy, but it’s not a regulatory rule. There are more risks to buy ins and such that some brokers don’t want to deal with. I know people who shorted it yesterday.
The insiders clearly had a plan to corner the float from day 1. It never traded like it had an 8M share float to begin with. Can they hold this up until the lockup ends?
I saw 100 shares available for about $45/share yesterday. Didn’t take it though. Last time I traded it I shorted it day 3 at like $26 and was disappointed I covered like $18 (thought it would drop like 80% in one day as many of these Chinese scams have). Anyways, with Reg SHO I have to re-borrow it every time I wish to short it that day. If it’s not Reg SHO it’s a one time fee to borrow that day. RDBX has been Reg SHO for months and I’ve borrowed it multiple times.
Jacksonville is the largest Republican-led city in America. Comparing Jacksonville to NYC per 100k residents for the year 2019: Homicides: 3.39 vs 12.18 Total Violent crime: 538.90 vs 631.32 Total Property crime: 1,448.59 vs 3526.68 Fresno is the largest Republican-led city in CA. It has a higher murder rate than all the Democratic-led cities with a larger population: LA, SD, SJ, and SF. I think it's overly simplistic to say that crime is going up, because liberal politicians are letting criminals run wild and free. Crime is up everywhere. There's a lot more at play, including real declines in wages and increases in poverty.
Reminds me of a Woody Allen movie where someone runs into a courtroom and loudly confesses that yes it was him, that he's indeed guilty. Unfortunately in a wrong courtroom...
