Bookkeeping: How to keep track of P/L and YTD performance?

  1. What's the best software for a retail trader to keep track of those things as if you are running your own hedge fund with performance #s to report to investors? I tried those mainstream software like MS Money but didn't like it one bit. Thanks!

I haven't seen anything better than just building it yourself in Excel.

It can do everything you need, down to the nth detail, and the price is right. You can probably get a free copy of an older version. Charts, stats, reports, tax-like layouts, whatever...Excel can do it.

Yes, it takes a bit of trial and error and work to get it the way you want, but it's worth it.

A few traders here have posted very good examples that they made. It would give you a nice head start.

    It was great!
