Being on a certain list or off a list means nothing. Everything is negotiable. The point is EU didn't want to negotiate with UK and instead just showed Britain to the door. That was what happened. I followed the Brexit process quite closely. It was a shame that they didn't send a tough negotiator and only sent a patsy Theresa May who came back with nothing but more demands from EU for UK to comply. So now UK needs to look at what it has and has not and figure out how to best manage its country and the economy just like a divorced wife that's been kicked to the curb with nothing by a controlling ex and now has to pick herself up and rebuild her life with what she has. And just like a divorced wife, at least UK's got her sovereignty and independence back and that is more than anything in the world.
Globalization is not a curse but you have to be very strategic in using it to ensure that it benefits you.
EU wants more "joiners"? LOL After what everybody saw what EU did to UK, I don't think anybody would want to join EU just like when all women saw what the ex did to the divorced wife, nobody would want to marry that ex-husband anymore. Nobody wants to join something that they cannot get out of, without reasonable recourse. Countries joined EU at its creation yes, thinking it's a good deal and not knowing or not thinking more carefully of what EU really is and what entails just like that divorced wife first married the ex thinking she's found a good life-partner not knowing his true nature. Now after Brexit, I don't think any new countries have joined EU.
I don't get the abusive relationship drama at all, in case you want to look for another analogy to express your point. The UK got out, that is an example of a country that got in and out. Other countries can follow the same process as if they want to leave they will probably face the same deal. The process of joining the EU takes years to complete, sometimes even 10 years and Brexit happened recently. Just for information these are the countries that are aiming to join the EU: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-11283616 Croatia already became a member

Breaking EU regulations and unilaterally imposing them on Britain to follow unconditionally. Deciding on laws and then forcing them upon Britain leaving it no choice but to follow. That to me is pretty abusive. Yes you can argue that's the nature of the EU agreement; that's just how things are done in EU and if UK doesn't like it then it can leave. Well that's what UK did. It left. LOL Yes "consequences" faced by Britain for leaving EU has been very well demonstrated thanks to the outstanding negotiation skill of EU upon Brexit. Yes everybody can see that. Hope those countries can make good use of these 10 years to think about what they would be getting into before they sign on the dotted line.
Globalization is a basket of rotten eggs. It stinks and is the undoing of many countries and their economies. The end results are horrific. While it may appear that there is some initial good it ends up a very destructive force.
