1) I have criticised IB. No threats, I'm still here. 2) Look at the TWS bug thread and see how they get clobbered. Not deleted, nobody banned. 3) Spend some time in the feedback forum, look at the post-change threads. Baron himself gets clobbered, hasn't banned anyone for that.
Who? Your mirror image? For how long time, that's the question. You can say the same at BMT. Who or what is DP? Dupont? No matter what you know what? I don't give a flying f... I said sponsors or more clearly certain sponsors. I neither mentioned IB nor said "all sponsors". It is documented that also Robertson or what ever his name is spelled told users via PM that he deletes posts/reviews/... if sponsors ask for. And it is documented that users get banned if they compare A with B, for example. Why would they do that? Most probably because there is some truth in it. So they seem to fear the truth or seem to suffer from other insecurities. Simple as that. The documented threats support that. If you wanna see it send PM.
To be fair, back in the day when I was a bigger "dick" a large majority of my stuff got censored here. I just think most don't notice because if you are not actively posting on a thread, how would you know. I use to get into fist to cuffs with Don and my shit had a 90% deletion rate. LOL. At the time my firm was a competitors to Don. But honestly I think both sites suck. Saying one is better is like saying "The Voice" is a much better show then "American Idol". LOL. And I think ET is a pretty big ghost town as well. It's the same people saying the same things over and over again so it only gives the appearance of more activity. In terms of new threads being started or even relevant content it's few and far between. The only activity we see here is when a pissing match begins and then the thread will go 500 pages in 3 days. LOL. But come on, that's not real quality posting. In fact there was a time when 90% of the posting took place down in P&R and Chit Chat. Look, let's be honest, ET is two ticks better then a Yahoo message board. In fact I'm convinced that is where 80% of the new posters come from. I'm a member of a more "professional" board and you can tell it's light years ahead of this place. And no, I am NOT giving out the link, not even over PM so nobody ask. There is better stuff out there. Although I have to admit, ET is great junk food.
Oxygen thieves who offer nothing. Of course the 7 post alias knows all about ET yet this is his first nick. I think the mods are lax w.r.t. these turds.
Maverick74 - I think forum/message board software designers figured out long ago that if you make the search function too good, the talking stops. Now, that probably doesn't apply to a forum devoted to celebrity gossip, sports fans and current events, but I think it does here. Even at a place like Wilmott, which I think most would agree is a more serious place than BMT or ET, you see the same basic inquiries and people looking for homework help over and over again. Warts and all, I think it's impressive that ET has been around for ~15 years. And maybe it'll be around for another 15. It's already stood up to the bloggers - most of whom give up after a year or two - and so far, Twitter is a good place for headlines and links to stories, but not for discussion.
Can't speak for others but I probably post in less than 5% of the threads I subscribe to, so I do get to see quite a bit of what is going on. I thought this thread was more about the relative freedom of expression between the 2 sites. I'm not saying ET is light years ahead of BMT, but for me the appeal here is more vigorous discussion and a lot more good stuff on options. Now if some people manage to be fearful here on ET, what can I say, you know run, there's a spider in the corner. As for new stuff and same old same old, we need to be pragmatic. This is trading - buy low sell high, and after a while we will run out of ways to express that. Of course some degree of complexity has to come in to making that work, but when I see someone relating Auction Market Theory to 1 minute or 5 minute bars, I know folks have lost the plot. Either that or maybe someone is planning a book merging AMT with Al Brooks bar by bar stuff, like the books on Lean Sigma that you see at airports. Much of stuff on the forums will be newbies asking basic questions and folks like you answering those questions. The value in all this, as in reading your 100th book on trading, is it gets the mind working and takes us out of the rut we might otherwise find ourselves in. If nothing else you can count on newbies to question stuff we might take for granted, and sometimes there is value there.
Offtopic, but here is a trick you guys can use. instead of using ET's search function. Just use google aimed at this site, called advanced google. You have to put in elitetrader into the domain name and voila, you get the best search results... No charge for the idea....
