Blackjack - I'm hooked!

  1. honestly, I would be happy if I could get similar results in a live setting.

I know trading (or, playing in this case) a demo is different than being there live with real money.

What do you think I could do to better my 21 game?

do you play BJ at all?

you seem to be very concise in your (hopefully constructive) criticism.

I'd really like to know how to get better.

  2. I think I am winning at 21 because my trading system simply destroys the odds against me, and the odds that are for the dealer.

First, I doubt the dealer cares wether you win or lose, He/she may actually prefer that you win since your tip will likely be bigger.

Second, I doubt that the yahoo play money game is fully random. I can beat my pocket pc plackjack game all the time. Doesn't make me a pro in real life.

Also, I can vary my bet size in a play money game without any emotional involvment. Way different in real life, but that could always be worked on.

i think if your going to count cards playing black jack the dealer at the casinos have about 5 decks at hand.... so if your counting cards would that exemtrely difficult??? the probabilities are very small for success.

one desk yes but 5

  5. I'm over $12,000 now.

a key question to ask is: Is it harder to get a natural 21, or be dealt multiple cards totally 21?

If you can figure out the answer to that, and bet accordingly, your odds of winning are greatly increased, jmo based on my experience that, let's see, is a little over a day now. :D

    LMAO

  6. since I don't count cards, and my system does not depend on counting cards, it doesn't matter if they have 500 decks deep.

    it just doesn't matter.

I'll win that much more. :D

  7. I play blackjack. I have a weekend away each month, where i fly to one of four cities each month (in Australia) - and spend the weekend gambling.

The only way to beat blackjack is to card count, it's quite tedious but not too complicated.

If you're playing like you are - you're playing with something like a .05% casino edge - so the casino through time will ALWAYS win.

Counting can marginally turn the odds in your favour, but you're better directing your time/energy toward trading, and maybe poker if you want to play a game.

There is a "basic strategy" to blackjack that has been worked out by players and mathematicians for some time now. It varies to a small degree depending on what house rules you're playing under, such as if you can double down on 18, 17, what you can split on, etc. Mastering that strategy, and learning to count cards, and playing in a shoe with fewer than 3 decks, and where they don't shuffle halfway through, you can tilt the odds in your favor. However, get tired, make a simple mistake or three, easy to do, and you wipe out hour's worth of work. You rarely see a casino offer the game anymore under like 4-6 decks in the shoe, and they typically reshuffle it when they're only 2/3 of the way through, which really sucks butt. A couple casinos, that I've seen in Vegas anyway, have tables with only one deck in the shoe (it's really a "door crasher" special, they want you to move to higher limit tables), but the limits are sharply reduced, and as soon as they figure you for a player, you're out.

If you're not even counting cards and have "made" all that money, you're just lucky at the moment, and it WILL change.

I've played blackjack for over 20 years now. In fact, I worked out one of my favorite "negative expectancy" money management schemes playing it, which is a variation of the old "31" method, which is of course a variation of the "mother of them all", the Martingale. I hope to successfully tweak the method to suit my trading in a positive expectancy environment--I can see it reducing my risk exposure a great deal, albeit at the cost of some growth rate.

i say you should cash out all your accounts, head over to foxwoods, atlantic city, vegas, reno, (insert favorite casino/city) and play it all at blackjack. why waste your time on yahoo when your system works. if you have 100k, turn it into a mil easy. plus you'll get all those free perks for playing with so much money.
