Most actually misunderstand Russia quite a bit. Not talking about politics but the country and its people. With 144 million the homicide rate is probably on par with other Balkan and Slavic countries. In the US the homicide rate is around 5 per 100k while in Russia its 7 to 8 per 100k. Not a world of difference.
As for your source - the following is written in the text (that you omitted, of course) that is particularly relevant for Russia (my emphasis): Origin and limitations of the available data on homicides In the best cases, the data on homicides relies on vital statistics or criminal justice sources. This is often the case for more affluent countries. But for some countries and some periods, such data is, unfortunately, lacking or incomplete and in these cases, the data providers rely on statistical modeling to produce estimates. These estimates of the homicide rates for a particular country or for particular age groups are produced by relying on available relevant measures – for example, the observed homicide data from similar countries or available data for a particular region within the country – and a statistical model. https://ourworldindata.org/homicides#origin-and-limitations-of-the-available-data-on-homicides My guess here is that they have some data related to Moscow, and applied it to the rest of the country - which is insane and would be like taking NYC and applying it to the rest of the US. This is the problem with folks on the left. Always emotional arguments without real critical thinking skills.
In some states if you beat somebody to death you can be charged with 3rd degree murder even if your intention wasn’t to kill them, because you intentionally performed a life-threatening felony attack on them that was relevant to their death.
I’ve seen them on Wikipedia. Maybe the data is wrong and I’m wrong. However, it’s indisputably clear that many Russian soldiers are murdering innocent Ukrainians. I don't think it's fair to claim that white people are more civilized and above murdering. There's a lot of environmental/economic factors at play. Nobody has any clue what they would be like if they had to live in somebody else's shoes.
If you look at the history of gangs, they filled a void as manufacturing jobs left the black urban centers. Black people moved to those centers in droves in the first place, because of the oppression in the Jim Crow South. During this time many politicians did everything in their power to make sure that black people would remain poorly educated and made it hard for them to benefit from things such as the GI Bill. Manufacturing were the best job opportunities many black families had to make a decent living. However, as the manufacturing jobs disappeared the black people remained. Of course once the gangs were established it became hard to break the cycle. If your dad's in a gang you're a hell of a lot more likely to be in a gang yourself. This is true of the white mafias as well. Also, what kind of jobs are available for uneducated low-skilled workers? Really poor paying ones. Our society doesn't value work, what it values is how much can you produce over the alternative. If there's an alternative who will work for less then the employer will hire them instead. This can and does lead people to competing for peanuts. How far does $10/hour get you? Not very far these days. Nobody believes the myth that you can start at the bottom and work hard you can become the CEO someday. That rarely happens. Especially for black people.
Sorry, I don't buy into any of that nonsense. Blacks chose to live in the inner cities and chose to remain there. Lots of white folk and Asians lived in inner cities but when the shit hit the fan they were out. Blacks stayed. It was their choice nobody forced them to stay. I don't care how difficult something is, it's equally difficult for any ethnic group, yet Asians or Latinos on average don't end up as poorly as Blacks. Asians thrived. Why is that? It's choices families made for themselves and their kids. It's hard for anyone to become a CEO, has nothing to do with blacks at all.
Very different situations, Asians/Latinos are mostly 1st/2nd generation and came here by choice. Immigrants are more mobile than average and not representative of the average American. In all honesty, they have better work ethics than the average non-immigrant regardless of race. African immigrants are actually some of the highest achievers in the country. At one point blacks basically moved to the inner city for work and to escape the oppression of the rural South. This was known as the "Great Migration" and it occurred from the early through the mid 1900's. They stayed there, because that's all they knew. Most people who are settled here try to stay by their family and people they know. They were around other black people and it's not like white people wanted to integrate with them. Afterall, the animosity towards blacks has always been rougher than against any immigrant group. Inner city black people aren't alone with this predicament as there are plenty of poor white people dependent on the government in places like Appalachia where jobs have vanished, but the people stayed. By the way, I'm not arguing that there doesn't need to be a significant cultural change, but people should realize how it got the way it did in the first place. We also need to admit that we are basically doing nothing to advance the economic opportunities in these inner cities which means that not only will they suffer, but their children will suffer and we will have generational poverty.
lol, choice he says. https://www.history.com/news/interstate-highway-system-infrastructure-construction-segregation https://www.vera.org/reimagining-prison-webumentary/the-past-is-never-dead/drug-war-confessional http://www.cnn.com/US/9811/03/cia.drugs/ https://www.history.com/topics/roaring-twenties/tulsa-race-massacre
What does this have to do with the number of homicides committed in each country as a comparative figure?
