Black Monday: Nuclear Meltdown in Japan

Discussion in 'Trading' started by bond_trad3r, Mar 12, 2011.

  1. If your terminology is wrong your statement is wrong. How am I supposed to know what you meant? And I am by no means an expert in this shit, I just know enough not to take all the "BREAKING HEADLINE NEWS OMG SKY IS FALLING" snippets on Fox/cnn/etc. as gospel.

The only reason you think I'm holding myself out as an "expert" is becuase I have something different to say than what you've absorbed about this story. Not my fault you are willing to be spoon-fed fragments of information without question or context. Everything I have stated is fact - none of it earth-shattering or something a 10th grader couldn't figure out with google and 30 minutes. The fact you think I;m an expert becuase I'm not repeating what I see in a video package on CNN is humorous.

  2. Right, so the idea that the containment vessels have been breached is your conclusion, based on your "analysis"? And it's not being reported by the mainstream media because they're all trying to hide things from us?

My father was a nuclear technician on a Soviet Submarine, Real Facts for Japanese Reactors.

Breach of containment has definitely happened as you can see from recent sat photo. Notice the white smoke this is a 100% sign that Cesium and others are escaping and have already escaped in mega numbers

My father says that Japanese government has only one card they play. Because Winds are taking the radiation into pacific toward Hawaii Japanese can say there is no radiation.

The Fact is if winds were taking radiation westward entire Japan would already be irradiated and Authorities wouldn't be able to lie

My father guarantees that you will be able to see higher radiation in Hawaii a week from now and even higher than normal radiation on West coast of United States

From the outset, you were rabidly hostile. Maybe you should calm down a bit? Second, I didn't take anything out of context. And if anyone is regurgitating pablum, it's you. Most of your posts could be mistaken for a GoJ update....nothing to see here, move along. Clearly a schizoid response given the recent updates on the nuke plants.

We're all entitled to our opinion. Maybe a disaster will be averted. Maybe it won't. Either way, none of us have any control over it or the situation. And imo, it looks dire. Now what makes you think Tokyo Electric is lying after they admitted they are working to prevent a meltdown?

  5. Once all this is over,

aren't CCJ and SHAW both buys?

I don't think they just lost 17% of their business?

PCG selling off? LOL, PCG has nothing to do with Japan

Are we going to shut down the world's nuclear power plants?

With so much fear in the nuclear space, why didn't coal rally?

Where is the energy going to come from?

I'm sure you guys can get some nice call prices on those nuke names today....

    -----------

Toyota, Honda selling off? All those destroyed cars need to be replaced.
Temporarily impacted yes, but soon??? A record quarter or set of quarters perhaps?

    ----------------------

I think a lot of these panic sells are going to be sick longs

Only ones that will stay down will be the prop. insurers.... and probably MCD / KO / YUM / LVS / WYNN etc
Also any luxury names with significant Jap exposure

    --------------------------

None of the construction stocks rallied today. CAT seemed to try.

    --------------------------

Here are the Japan trades that have worked (if you entered Friday)

    1. Short nuclear
    2. Short property insurers
    3. Short EWJ (including any US listed Japan stock)
    4. Short Macau
    5. Short KO / MCD / YUM
    6. Long Yen
    7. Short airlines w/ flights to/from Japan
    8. Long solar
    9. Long gold / silver
    10. Long coal
    11. Long Construction

Here are the Japan trades that had a crappy intraday performance today:
    1. Long construction
    2. Long coal
    3. Long gold / silver
    4. Long solar
    5. Short nuclear
    6. Short property insurers

Here are the Japan trades that had a GOOD intraday performance today:
    1. Short EWJ / Japan stocks
    2. Short airlines w/ flights to/from Japan
    3. Long Yen
    4. Short KO / MCD / YUM
    5. Short Macau

  6. lol... I'm pretty relaxed actually. :) I'm sure it's worse than advertised, but you cannot dispute that the reading 2km away from the reactors are barely above background levels. From what I understand, the biggest issue right now is the possible release of things like Cesium via steam from the water they are cooling the core(s) with.

  7. If you have at all tracked the time line of the information that has been released, you will find that Cesium detection was first reported very soon after the explosion for reactor #1. Cesium levels have grown now with the second explosion from reactor #3 and those not at all near the facility are getting detected with radioactive contamination.

So far we have a divergence from the reality of the local area radioactive detection and what has been reported as "the current story" from the main media reporting events. IMO we have a media that is well behind the power curve from what is actually taking place in reactor #1 and #3 or we have a media that is reporting improper information to try and contain the current reality (most likely influenced from government agencies).

  8. Murphy moves to Tokyo?? If the below pans out, right about now would be the absolute worst possible time for something to happen, which means...

  9. Here is the truth about the reactors:

    After several days,
they are still cooling the reactors with seawater

    ---------

Does that sound contained to you?

I think they have no idea what to do.

They destroyed the power plant by using seawater and boron.

    -----------

    The real question is...
why is it not yet contained?
Why are they STILL using seawater
    after SEVERAL days?

    -------------

Here I just read this on CNN:

"In Fukushima Prefecture, an explosion in a building housing the No. 3 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi plant injured 11 workers. Hours later, cooling problems at the plant's No. 2 reactor allowed nuclear fuel rods to overheat and generate radioactive steam that officials will have to vent into the atmosphere.

Crews thought they had the situation under control, but water levels dropped dangerously again Monday night when a buildup of steam prevented fresh seawater from entering the reactor chamber, Tokyo Electric Power Co. reported. Officials said they would be able to fix the problem."

    -----------------

Does that sound contained or safe?
They are pissing themselves and you know it!

let's wait and see before spreading paranoia. No one knows how this will all play out, but I'm pretty sure none of us are going to have any bearing on the outcome
