Exactly Pek, and this is why the money laundering rubbish about Bitcoin is so ridiclous, it's all done on a public blockchain so it's a pretty foolish place to commit big time crime. Throw in very sophisticated analysis of the blockchain by the chain analysis companies and it's not that hard to connect all the dots. Does money laundering go on within Bitcoin, of course it does, but it's so minisclue it's not even worth bothering about. This point has been proved by countless government agencies both in the US and abroad. Want to know where the real money laundering goes on? Look into how much in fines the big global banks have paid over the last 10 years for specific money laundering offences. The number I think tops $2billion in fines. As ever, money laundering/ mafia involvement/terrorists etc + Bitcoin makes a great story to get clicks.
Yeah, that makes sense, ‘hey let’s dress like a bunch of delusional MAGA devotees and hang with people we don’t like and protest an election that we won!’
It’s never claimed to be anonymous by those whom understand it, only pseudo-anonymous. Regardless, it still does not change it’s value proposition.
Dice, listen to Sprout, he's taken the time to understand Bitcoin and its value prop, whereas I'm not getting the impression you have (takes 3-6 months of studying/thinking).
Maybe it wasn't coming from foreigners: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/15/trump-republicans-election-defeat-club-for-growth
Lots of people misunderstand BTC's abilities so I wouldn't be surprised if they picked the wrong crypto. And the correct pick would have been Monero. Another version is that they wanted to hint a wrong path, and they new exactly what they were doing. After all, if you know what forensic electronic analysis can do, you can fake things the way you want them. So were a bunch of ultra wealthy US billionaires behind the money? (see my previous post) What is not better then pretending to be foreign influence and the money coming from France?
Exactly Pek, I agree with the above. Who knows why/where/what these days. Very easy to make something look like it came from X but Y actually sent it (and Y wants everyone to know X sent it).
If you use a different public key for each transaction it is virtually impossible to trace users. There are multiple other ways to minimize the risk but bitcoin payments are still impossible to trace to a specific human user if the user is not making stupid mistakes.
There is no such thing as secrecy over using Bitcoin as the drug dealers found out in short order. They got busted, charged and all their Bitcoin taken from them. If it is so secret, how did the authorities find out what they were doing? It is an excuse for criminals to think they can deal and not be found out. Good luck with that.
