Canada has always supported whatever US policies that seemed fair but objected to those that were not. For example, many Canadians ( including our government ) objected to the entire premise of invading Iraq. Americans were thoroughly brainwashed at the time by the government and media. I don't think most everyday Americans understood that they were the ones paying for that war out of their own pockets ( or possibly more accurately their childen ). Not to mention the many lives that were needlessly lost by a wacky president's ambition.

Most of the world had no objection to trying to capture and if need be kill OBL. Why would there be outrage ? I will say that whomever was responsible for trying to assassinate Ghadafi is criminal. I suspect the US military oversteps its bounds now, not that it ever had to with Bush in power. I'll never fully understand US politics; as long as idiots like Palin and the religious right are part of the equation something just isn't right about your system.

Tell me something, did you vote for Bush ??? Why on earth would you do that ??? Have you any idea how stupid that whole situation looked to people outside of the US ???

"Thoroughly brainwashed" is applicable. Americans have been raised to worship the state and never question their gov't. That is going to have to change, if we are going to make it.

Americans can make top notch technology items, excel in medical sciences and be top space race etc. but some their political decisions in the last 20 years seem to be outright stupid, arrogant and self destructive.

Guess the intellectual elite do not like to venture into the politics. But then why should they. Politics is a game of wicked and morons. However, leaders chosen also show the general sentiment of the people and thus there might be some fault at American thinking also.

Too bad politicians influence our lives on daily basis and we all are hypnotized to their actions, pretty much.

  6. Even though I'm Canadian, I'll pretend you didn't ask me that question.

The US government's behaviour reminds me a lot of the way Germany was behaving leading up to WW II. Invading other countries to "keep the terrorists under control" and assisination of foreign leaders.

I've had the dubious privilege to have worked with both Americans and Germans and the attitude of both cultures towards others is strikingly similar.

Precisely right. The US is turning into a police state and that didn't turn out so well in Germany.

There is another similarity: Like Germans, the US is also financing its war and war like efforts by issuing debt. While German logic of wanting to expand into Russia was 'more space' for growing population, the American logic is 'more oil and energy' for growing consumption.

Worst of the problems arise from inside and Best of the solutions also come from within. US needs to look inwards to defeat new challenges like high debt, energy demand etc.

One religious guy once told me this: God is most forgiving and kind but hates two things the most - Arrogance (Ego) and Barbarism (Cruelty).
Unfortunately since 1991, US has shown both traits in quite an excess and should change its ways for the good of all including itself.

It was a great pity that he took the evil road of dishing out death to others and therefore deserved to suffer a similiar violent end himself.

If he ever had anything worth while or constructive to say it was blotted out by his insane actions. Good ridance imho but I would rather he was disgraced and shown up to be the false prophet in court.
