I don't care who made the statement. Myself and several others criticized the idea regardless of who said it. It really does sound like it came from someone with too much time on his hands. That does not logically imply that the person has always had too much time on his hands or never did anything good with his time. It's simply a statement equivalent to saying, "Who has time to think of Luddite solutions to far out highly speculative problems?" Maybe Recession criticized rich people because crap like this tends to come from wealthy people or celebrities such as Steven Hawkings recent warning about AI destroying the world. Guy should just stick to what he knows. He's not an AI researcher. To be clear, despite Windows ME, I still respect Gates. I just suspect that maybe his money would be better served researching Alzheimer or general cognitive decline which he may be beginning to face.

Whatever dude. I'd say the guy who thinks saving children from polio is a bad thing is the one in cognitive decline, but that's just me, probably too much time on my hands. Of course you could question the decline part since that presumes some height to begin with.

Japanese and German machine and car production has been running on robots since the 80s. This is nothing new. For some reason the US alt-right media is paranoid about robots in manufacturing. Totally delusional.

It's actually been more socialists, progressives, and unions that have been concerned about automation. Occasionally, I'll see an article on Zerohedge, usually about some fast food restaurant replacing workers with kiosks after a minimum wage hike, but I wouldn't say that they are concerned about it. But maybe you would know better as I don't read alt-right media...unless you count the comment section on ZH.

  5. Well, I will be happy if it's true, I'm not a big expert in the industry.

So Gates wants a tax on productivity.

We live in a world where production is what is taxed, this isn't anything new. The other alternative is a tax on wealth, a bunch of people seem pretty dead set against that. Given that it's far more efficient to socialize costs like roads, police, national security....and that has to be paid for, what is your suggestion for where the money comes from?

  9. hey guy, you don't have billions so it's pointless to discuss the what if's because you have no effect on anything

the point is bill gates does have too much time on his hands if he's got nothing better to do than propose robo taxes and the writer that wrote this stupid article also has too much time on his hands

Interesting philosophy, you need to have billions to ask someone to clarify a completely inane point? That's right on par with your idea that kids dying of polio is a good thing because one might be the next Hitler. You're suffering a critical deficit in critical thinking skills my friend, you should work on that. BTW, still no recession in 2016, bet you have an equally convoluted and logic free explanation for that as well.
