Remember Bill Gates idea on how to stop spam? Each email should cost 5 cent. That would make spamming uneconomical. Of course this was a total crackpot.

Then along came Gmail and showed how to deal with spam.

  2. imo it's absolutely necessary, otherwise we'll just see riots and revolutions almost everywhere.

  3. The scale of robots is a little bit bigger than emails.

Um, you are aware this particular rich person started a foundation that has saved the lives of tens of millions of children and cut the number of polio cases in the world from 350,000 cases a year to 37, among other things. (www.gatesnotes.com/2017-Annual-Letter.gatesnotes.com/2017-Annual-Letter) Nearly eliminating polio not good enough for you, what do you think he should be doing instead?

  5. "saved lives" what does that even mean? he prolonged their life; he didn't invent the cure for death

So he's gotta conquer death to be anything but a rich guy with too much time on his hands. Wow, you must have made a staggering contribution to humanity to have such high standards, what was that contribution again?
Clearly you don't have kids, I mean if I only prevented your child from dying of polio at 5 and they died anyway of a traffic accident at 50 then what's the point right?
You must have been trying to be sarcastic, surely? Because not even the most narsasistic a-hole would fail to see the benefit of over 300,000 kids a year not getting polio!
And by the way, Gates is nothing if not pathologically analytical, so if you really care I could get you the exact definition the Gates Foundation uses to measure a life saved. I'm guessing you're just being obtuse though, and don't really care.

  7. you never know, what if he prevented another hitler from getting polio? then technically he's destroyed more lives than he "saved"

Recession is correct. What Gates said is f***ing stupid. I gave the guy credit earlier in this thread for founding Microsoft and sure, the polio work is great, but sorry, just because someone does a great deed does not mean that they get an automatic pass on everything that they say. Just because I donate to charity does not mean that everyone should respect what I say or that I can never be wrong. If he or anyone else starts publishing crackpot ideas, then that's an indication that they should spend more time focusing on what they are good at.

You're right. In fact, why don't you just start killing everyone around you, you might get the next Hitler and save lives!
Again I'd be curious what you've accomplished to make the world a better place? Or you just throw stones and take the utterly absurd position that preventing kids from getting polio is in any way not a good thing. One wonders how people like you manage to live long enough to make it to adulthood with whatever that is you have passing for logic and reasoning skills.

First he was remarking that it might happen, not suggesting it should. Second, you're right, he may not have a valid idea here. I don't really especially like the guy, at least the Microsoft version of Gates. But when some jackass who for all we know could be living in a trailer with his mom says that Gates is a "rich guy with too much time on his hands" that guy (recession 2016) simply an idiot, no surprise given the handle he chose.
