Blacks benefit from Florida âStand Your Groundâ law at disproportionate rate 10:02 PM 07/16/2013 African Americans benefit from Floridaâs âStand Your Groundâ self-defense law at a rate far out of proportion to their presence in the stateâs population, despite an assertion by Attorney General Eric Holder that repealing âStand Your Groundâ would help African Americans. Black Floridians have made about a third of the stateâs total âStand Your Groundâ claims in homicide cases, a rate nearly double the black percentage of Floridaâs population. The majority of those claims have been successful, a success rate that exceeds that for Florida whites. Nonetheless, prominent African Americans including Holder and âEbony and Ivoryâ singer Stevie Wonder, who has vowed not to perform in the Sunshine State until the law is revoked, have made âStand Your Groundâ a central part of the Trayvon Martin controversy. http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/16/b...d-law-at-disproportionate-rate/#ixzz2ZJ3AHEhX Another inconvenient truth.
