Big Brown Goes Down the Toilet

  1. congrats to all of you who wanted big brown to lose! I'm curious as to why not a single one of you mentioned this BEFORE the race. The only one calling for big borwn to lose before the race was good ole Bob Rowshan

Give credit where credit is due: Barclay Tagg and Ebar Coa took BB down singlehandedly, and masterfully I may add. First, pinning BB along the rail, and then, keeping BB outside of Tale of Ekati, never allowing him to pass, and whenever BB tried to move up, Coa moved further away from the rail forcing BB out even more.

It's a joke that people are looking for an injury or a reason. Coa made BB work extra hard, and in 90+ degrees and at 1 1/2 miles, that's all that was needed to stop BB, who didn't have the pedigree anyway.

Congrats to NY, Nick Zito and Barclay Tagg, proving that a big mouth trainer should never underestimate the other horses in NY racing ! Bravo!

  2. Hmm, I don't know why I didn't pop over to Elite to sing out. Even though I was on the road visiting friends I suppose I could have looked over here to see if there was a thread.

I know I didn't speak out at the OTB because I wasn't interested in having anyone change our return. We practice hedging horses and we had the top two computer choices to play for the win. I was an online handicapper (www.tracksidebroadcasting.com) for a few years and I still play off and on sometimes. It's a fun past-time! :)

Hey I'm no handicapper I went to the track on a whim when a friend called me and told me he was going. I didn't think Big Brown would win, mainly because I thought the field was weak in the derby and preakness and the belmont has a way of seperating the wheat from the chaff but I got lucky on picking the exacta. I do enjoy a day at the races but I go just to have a few cold ones, watch the horses and blow a few bucks hence the low roller $2 box. It still felt good to hold that winner when the place got silent though.

  5. I've been playing the ponies for over twenty years (not as much the last five), and I do think this will come down to Roids. Once that gate opened, I do have to say he didn't look like himself. Combine that with the other jockey's pinning him in early and never letting him clear into second early, and the extended distance for this leg and you have the making of upset. And we saw it! At the top of the stretch there really was no reason to pound him for a better than where he was finish.

I've attended other derby contests where I've seen the jockey work the favorite to death to get a sixth or seventh, or wherever place finish. And while I do understand competitive nature (I have it myself), I didn't have a problem when the jockey did what he did Saturday.

You also have to remember that we're coming off the death run of another horse just two derby races ago. Err to the side of caution for now. :)

Exactly! The only reason Kent pulled him up is he knew he couldn't win and he wanted an excuse besides the horse is not the super duper horse his connections attempted to make him out to be..

The horse wanted to run out of the gate but Kent gave him a lousy ride, holding him back and the horse even jerked his damn head at one time and finally in 95 degree weather, the horse basically said.."If you don't allow me to run, then fuck you, I won't in this weather"

The only party I have sympathy for is Casino Drives connections..They all along were pointing him for The Belmont and rightfully scratched him when he came up with a injury..
