  1. 20 aLQaida nukes in the US? nukes from former USSR in the US ? such bullsh*t
anyway I don't think terrorists are actually interested in using nukes. Even terrorists have some kind of "rules of engagement" and the effect of nukes may not even be what they look for

As for those brilliant scientists who invented or worked on atomic bombs may they rot for ever in hell

  2. Oil through the roof? We haven't seen demand declines kick in yet. I carpooled and sat in gas lines in the Northeast during the embargo in '73. We'll put on more trains, fly more, use paper instead of plastic, gassify coal, use more "clean" coal, explore for more natural gas, install more nuclear (and the first experimental fusion plant breaks groung this year in France), park our SUVs in the north 40, increase usage of gassohol, and open up fields that aren't productive at $60. Oh, and there's some point at which solar is cost effective. We could get to the point that the only thing we make out of oil is contraceptives, and even for that we have sheep guts. Think green and oil is not an issue.

  3. Well a late day reversal does not always portend a pullback during the next trading session ...... but a four year high is a good excuse to try a reversal .......

I agree that the strength of the move was modest ... up at the open and then stuck in a trading range with a pullback in the last hour.

The wrench in your prediction could be the numbers releases .... if they outperform expectations I dont think you will see much follow through on the reversal ....

  4. Ever heard of lead?

Care to enumerate those targets? One of the primary problems with fighting AQ is that there are no conventional military targets. Unless you plan on wiping out whole countries because there are handfuls of terrorists mixed in (can you say collateral damage?)

Political moral high ground? What exactly is the moral difference between destroying the twin towers/killing civilians and causing the same level of destruction on a wider scale? The same (twisted) rational that they used for 9/11 could easily be used to nuke NYC.

  5. The genie is out of the bottle. Hoping that some nutjob never gets their hands on one isn't going to cut it. With less stable countries starting to develop nukes its only a matter of time IMHO.

  6. Really? What are those rules? You don't think they would have been overjoyed if the twin towers coming down had taken out 30,000 people instead of 3,000?

Folks I think you are really naive if you don't see that they are interested in causing the maximum amount of damage they can. You don't think they would try to nuke Wash DC to make a political statement or NYC to strike at the heart of our financial center (again)?

There are only two things required for it to happen, the terrorists need to:

    (1) acquire a working weapon
    (2) have the will to detonate it

Anyone who thinks point 2 is going to be the sticking point that prevents this from happening is relying on their own beliefs and not thinking like AQ. Would you have believed that flying a plane loaded with people into the towers was allowed under the terrorists "rules of engagement" before 9/11?

  7. DTM

I agree with you Optionproof007. To me, the S&P 500 looks set to do a reversal, if not friday, then definitely within the next week or so. Its confusing as the Dow still looks like its powering up but the S&P 500 looks weak.

  8. many large caps have made big workforce reductions and cost reductions over the last three years: these moves are starting to yield big gains on profitability. .......

I dont view this as anything truly unusual when set against the backdrop of seasonal signals ......
