BTW, if we get a big rally on Tuesday (not at all what I'm expecting), I'll probably bail on this trade, at least partially.
Many thanks to everyone for sharing their amazing wealth of knowledge...I really love reading this website. I hope to contribute soon too. I usually dont ask for advice on specific positions, but when I saw RM with a similar position, I had to ask.... After all he is the MAN! (I know i am adding to his personality disorder) I really was just asking generally which is better if you are bullish on and index, a bullish spread, a put write, or a long call. But in this case I realize the answer. And it probably all depends on the person individually. I know the VIX has averaged around 18 over the last 20 or so years...I am looking for a way to play a reversion to the mean. I also think that although the VIX has an inverse relationship to the SPY, it can sometimes increase in a flat to bullish market, depending on the put buying action. Thank you again RM!! And good luck to everyone! Even though Rearden doesnt need it Hahaahahaha
I have completely bailed out of my 12.50's position at $0.40. That's a 20% gain from where I called it- not quite as good as I predicted, but still you can't count that trade as a failure. Still short the 14's at the moment. For the record though, I'll officially call that one a bail too. The offer is $1.55, so that's a $0.10 gain there as well. Neither trade went against me at all. I win again. EDIT: I'm completely out of these now. Bailed on the 14's at $1.55.
Bob, I hope you took my advice and bailed on this position. (Current quote: $2.40 by $2.50) If you stay in this, I do believe you will be pounded like a rented gerbil. (Not an especially pleasant sensation, IMHO.)
YES! I am out for half of them... I kept half (10) because I am a stubborn idiot(my personality disorder) I think I may keep the rest... if not for speculation, as an overall hedge on my long positions. Ill be looking for prediction # 5 from Mr. Perfect Later! Bob
Thx RM, I entered and exited @identical prices and made $0.20 -comm. still a pretty darn good trade for a weekend hold. Still holding my sept/nov 15c cal I bot for $1.15, last marked $1.70. however, I will still have to earn more VIX premium before I bring you the finest meats and cheeses in the world!
BTW, these contracts are down to 95 cents and 15 cents respectively. Just needed to wait a bit longer. Again, good call.
