Fair enough. I will agree if a school takes public funding then it should not be able to discriminate against LGBTQ students.
Change "most do not" to "all should not". Call them vouchers or super duper friendly coupons, there's no reason for tax payers to subsidze bigotry or "intelligent design"
Yes, vouchers are allowed and I will add in that the court ruled last year that state scholarships can be used or must be allowed if the individual chooses to go to a religious college. In both instances it is considered to be funding the individual and not the institution. I can't get to far into the weeds right now. But I will note that plenty of religious organizations (think Catholic Charities) get HUGE amounts of public funding. HUGE. This is accomplished by setting up an affiliated 503C which is eligible to receive funding for activities that are not (per the supreme court test) "inherently religious." Similarly, all of these religiously affiliated hospitals get load and load of public funding via medicare and medicaid reimbursement and at the institutional level too where they have segregated funding and operations off into a 503 c. Workarounds like that make it so that you be right and saying that religious organizations cannot be funded, except they are where they re-appear as a 503c and do not use funds for "inherently religious purposes." It's complicated. And still shifting by court decisions.
But what about all us tax payers who can't support LGBT issues for religious reasons. We are forced to discriminate against our religion by being supportive. Sexual orientation is a pure psychological construct. Based on feelings and emotions. Not on biology. If we as tax payers are forced to support an issue that is purely based on self perception then why don't others not respect religious convictions that in their eyes are also based purely on perception and belief?
Well then you need to vote politicians who support your view. They drive the public policy about how public money can be spent on schools.
I mean if someone gets a state scholarship the money is theirs to go to any school so if they choose a religious school so be it. I doubt every winner/recipient is going to a religious school anyway. I am ok with religious hospitals getting funding if they treat all patients and don't impose their religion on the standard of care (i.e. turn away a gay person needing surgery). They might not be open to birth control or abortions but if they are not the only hospital in town it might not be an issue. It does not make sense for a religious school to claim tax exemption but then as a private school get federal funds so I hope that it happens rarely if ever and for specific reasons. I think religious schools are fine but they are making a private choice and charge tuition and Catholic ones get support from the church. Most sham curches just mak the preacher rich anyway (building fund my ass..)
OK, of course I agree. But is that it? There is no right or wrong or fairness and unfairness? Just who holds the power in his/her hands? I disagree. Else, why are we talking here instead of just voting and kicking back the rest of the 4 years?
Well, it's equally not fair that my tax dollars, as one with religious convictions, is spent on causes I absolutely cannot support. I don't hate any LGBTQ individual but I am strongly against encouraging our kids to explore their sexual orientation when gender was already determined before birth. I am strongly against letting anyone in a gender specific bathroom whose gender at birth does not match. I am against LGBTQ members in the army. I am against LGBTQ members to adopt children ever (nor single parent households should be allowed because plenty of research has shown that children are best brought up with one mother and one father). All those issues are eroded with MY TAX DOLLARS against my will. Yet I tolerate it because I respect the rule of law and democracy. I am tolerant in that respect. Why is the LGBTQ community not tolerant towards those few schools to do what their mandate dictates when there are tons of other schools to chose from? Now they push their dicks into female sports competitions, even female athletes now complain and are strong opposed. How far will their intolerance go? They want everyone to be tolerant but they themselves are the least tolerant to anyone else.
Gender is purely biological, genetic. Not societal. Look it up, it's close to the chapter on chromosomes. Geez. Just because your ilk started to differentiate between sex and gender does not make it so. But I am confident it's just a fad of our times and as we move along humanity will come to its senses, it must in order to survive (hint: procreation is necessary to survive)
