Biden’s bread line crisis? Anatomy of the American baby formula shortage

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Mercor, May 10, 2022.

  1. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, D-N.J., announced Wednesday that his panel will hold a hearing regarding the formula shortage, saying in a statement that the national shortages "are increasingly alarming and demand Congress' immediate attention."

The hearing is slated for two weeks from now on May 25.

By the time Congress wraps up its hearing and grandstanding for the public, there will be formula on the shelves and this will be over but Congress will still MILK it for votes and sympathy....Although FDA action was needed since 2 babies died, they should have immediately had a public notice on the fact that the plant being closed could lead to shortages 2-3 months later when all inventory was sold off.

The United States Commissioner of Food and Drugs is the head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The commissioner is appointed by the president of the United States and must be confirmed by the Senate.

  3. you guys think a political appointee or lack thereof means an agency is dead in the water and just sits around doing nothing?

There is a Deputy Commissioner and Chief of Staff and every Division has a Division Chief. The Commissioner just signs papers and speaks to the press....that is what a political appointee does. Civilians run the office/agency/department.

Well it certainly indicates there is now a dangerous monopoly/too big to fail factor with Abbott. That needs addressing.

Much if the adult powdered food at the hospice I volunteer for is Abbott's Ensure.

People in hospice should not be given food. They go there to die, so let them die.

Seriously though, powdered food is not the only option for people in hospice. What about liquid mashed potato?

If only the Democrats had control of the Senate and could set the schedule

You are confusing a hospice with a suicide booth on Futurama, people are sometimes there for months. The mashed potato powder in Dollar City here is tasty though with salt butter.
