All federal contracts have preferences for minority and women owned businesses -- this is not new for this Infrastructure bill -- it has been going on for decades. This article trying to claim that this is something new and particular to the Infrastructure bill is absurd.
I never state if I supported or oppose the policy. I am simply stating that it has been in place for all federal contracts for decades... it is not a new policy associated with the infrastructure bill.
Preference is not the right word. My wife comes from a generational general contractor family that does big construction jobs, many with HUD. They are a preferred contractor because they have shown over many years and jobs to meet high standards and complete the contract in whole. They are what is known as a Prime contractor. Prime contractors hire sub contractors and in their contracts with whatever agency are goals for minority and women on the job. They have good subcontractors that easily meet the goals- I think the main plumber they use is a minority and painting is woman owned. But that’s all it is. You report hours worked and wages paid. Simple stuff.
