  1. Please tell me that you are not that naive to not know that EVERY president has a team of speech writers working for months on preparing the SOTU which is read word for word via teleprompt.

  2. Yeh. Don't be making fun of Maxine. She is actually a foreign policy savant.

Wayy ahead of her times. You may recall that she was the first to condemn Putin for invading Korea while everyone else pretended that it did not happen.

All of this is misinformed and misguided. Try focusing in on the criticism of the statement you made and don’t expand the playing field because you realize Biden never supported “defund the police.” Some democrats is true but that wasn’t your argument I criticized.

I maintain that "redirecting funding from the police" is the same as defunding the police.

My brief thoughts on Biden's SOTU address.

I give it a C+/B- . The speech from Biden was well-written and obviously he was well rehearsed. It covered all the key administration policy objectives in a concise manner.

Where did things fall short? He stumbled a few times in speaking... but this is not a significant issue. Many politicians do on longer speeches. He tried to use the speech to rally and promote unity -- and it did not come across as he hoped. Especially in the face of some heckling from Greene & Boebert. Biden did not come across IMO as a strong, able leader ready to take on the issues facing the U.S. in this era of conflict in the Ukraine. This includes the segment at the end where he his big rallying words were hard to hear over the applause from Democrats in the chamber.

Biden avoided the past; including most of his Covid response, the Afghanistan withdrawal, and the inflationary issues facing the U.S. for the most part. He failed to address the pocketbook issues that most Americans care about in any significant manner beyond promoting his spending package. IMO Biden's SOTU speech will not do much to help his approval ratings. He may get a minor bounce -- but it will not last unless he makes progress with his agenda and drives a successful resolution of the Ukraine situation.

Not that the Republican response from Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds was any better. She came across flat, almost boring at times. She obviously hit on key Republican criticisms of the Biden administration, but failed to make any points that would really stick. It came across as a repetition of the same, old tired talking point harped on TV talk shows by Republican politicians every weekend. Her speech provided criticism but nearly no hints of a better Republican vision -- because the intent was simply to tear down Biden. Her SOTU response served to underline that the Republicans have no unifying vision or platform for the 2022 mid-term election.

  9. You're talking about Trump again, who spent his presidency channel surfing to see who was talking about him.
