Twitter frowns on Joe Biden's laugh By PATRICK GAVIN | 10/11/12 9:56 PM EDT Updated: 10/11/12 10:28 PM EDT Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan were the two candidates on stage at Thursdayâs vice presidential debate, but a third character emerged: Joe Bidenâs laugh, which didnât escape the notice of tweeting politicos. (And led, of course, to at least three satirical Twitter accounts: Laughing Joe Biden, Biden Smirk, and yet another Laughing Joe Biden.) Weekly Standardâs Mark Hemingway: âJoe Bidenâs laughing through talking about Iran sanctions?â TIMEâs Michael Scherer: âNot sure debate cameras have been light tested for Bidenâs teeth. Best to watch with sunglasses.â Washington Examinerâs Philip Klein: âBidenâs strategy seems to be to laugh at Ryan constantly. Will it work to infantalize Ryan, or backfire like Gore sighing?â NBCâs David Gregory: âBidenâs smile is out of control.â BuzzFeedâs Ben Smith: âSo did Biden practice laughing at Ryan???â (PHOTOS: 11 insults about being vice president) ABCâs Rick Klein: âBiden on verge of breaking down in laughter when Ryan talks.â Former Eric Cantor staffer Brad Dayspring: âJoe Biden needs to realize this isnât a Senate Foreign Relations Hearing. His laughter and condescending attitude is a disaster.â (PHOTOS: 10 great debate moments) Radio host Neal Boortz: âLooking like Bidenâs gameplan is to laugh his way through this.â Townhall.comâs Guy Benson: âWill Biden laugh his ass off at the terrible economy, too?â (See also: Complete coverage of the VP debate) MSNBCâs S.E. Cupp: âBiden needs to laugh a little less through the Libya, Middle East, nuclear Iran segment.â Washington Postâs Chris Cillizza: âOk. I have decided. I find the Biden smile slightly unsettling.â (Also on POLITICO: 5 things to watch in VP debate) PBSâ Jeff Greenfield: âBiden has always had a smile that at times is really, really inappropriate.â Washington Examinerâs Paul Bedard: âCanât tell yet if Bidenâs smirking, laughs, eye-rolling, head shaking, works for him or not against the oh-so-young looking eager Ryan.â Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer: âBiden is at risk of having his laugh come across like Goreâs sighs. He should knock it off.â The New York Timesâ Ashley Parker: âBidenâs grin is Chesire Cat caliber.â Republican strategist Ron Bonjean: âBiden laughing does not come off with the intended effect. It is actually hurting him. Looks very condescending.â Movie critic Roger Ebert: âJoe! Stop smiling and laughing!â Washington Timesâ Emily Miller: âBiden laughing when he disagrees with Ryan is so annoying. Like a child in time out.â Washington Postâs Jennifer Rubin: âBidenâs laughing is losing the debate- obnoxiousâ Comedy Centralâs Indecision: âIf this keeps up much longer, Joe Bidenâs going to sprain his laugh muscles.â Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1012/82313.html#ixzz2935Q4ORt
And now for the truth from ET's only voice of reason: Dear Paul Ryan: We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem. Dear Joe Biden: We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem. Both of you only confused the masses. I would like for you to both understand that we need to scrap the evil IRS and replace our current system with a consumption tax, with the elimination of the capital gains tax nonsense. Now... Joe Biden: Biden spanked that boy. Better prepared than Ryan. Was too animated with the giant frequent grin. A bit rude toward Ryan, in general. Didn't show up drunk. Paul Ryan: Got spanked by that old man. Just not tough enough. Was Paul extremely thirsty? Moderator: Poor. I am glad that Joe Biden, Paul Ryan, and I do actually agree on one important issue: Abortion is murder, but I am the only one of the three of us with the guts to call it exactly what it is.
This CBS reporter covering the Romney campaign made the same comment made by an ETer here ealier, independents are not going to like Biden's antics tonight.
You really think Obama can pull off that smile and snobbish behavior ? I think he is more courteous than that.
Great posts. I think the story of the debate will be Biden's demeanor. It was disgraceful. It seems everyone is talking about it. This is awful for ol' Joe. I wonder if Obama was yelling at the TV for Joe to quit laughing. Plus, there are some problems with a few of Biden's facts.
He won the debate on the facts and exposing the failings of the Romney Ryan ticket. He did this in spite of the rude smirking and laughing.
