At first, I was going to call BS so I went to the study. I'd say the issue here's mainly methane and the asthma debate's to pull at your heart strings. Where are kids in the home w/the range is running? I was surprised at how leaky these things are though and can see a strong argument for emissions requirements; these things have remained unchanged for over 100 yrs. I've yet to be convinced on removing one of the most efficient modes of heat generation in lieu of electric and I doubt NY has a strong green energy generation to justify it. https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.est.1c04707 edit: Found the asthma study. Odd that Texas would have relatively low households w/gas compared to NY or Cali. Lead paint, asbestos, radon, r12. All things we took for granted & healthy until science showed us otherwise. Study's a bit light so we'll see what peer review says. https://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/20/1/75
It's just another nick of the knife. Alone, it's no big deal. But yeah, emissions regulation is in order. Of course that will raise the price.
Not sure why this is controversial, a "gotcha". New facts have emerged, the body of facts has changed, so now people's minds are changing. That is how our brains should be working. Without it all we have is dogma.
