In a first, the CDC says to use masks indoors when not home https://www.detroitnews.com/story/n...s-use-masks-indoors-when-not-home/3829983001/ Americans should be wearing a mask indoors whenever they’re outside their own home, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending for the first time as COVID-19 surges across the country. The recommendation on mask-wearing in all indoor sites came in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly report, which cited a high-level transmission of the virus as the ongoing holiday season and colder weather have driven more people indoors. “Consistent and correct use of face masks is a public health strategy critical to reducing respiratory transmission” of COVID-19, the report stated, adding that this was particularly important “in light of estimates that approximately one half of new infections are transmitted by persons who have no symptoms.” Face masks are most important in indoor spaces, the advisory said, and outdoors when six feet of separation can’t be maintained. Within households, face masks should also be used when a member is infected or has had recent potential COVID-19 exposure, according to the CDC guidance. The advice comes after a period when U.S. President Donald Trump has played down the use of face masks, even making fun of President-elect Joe Biden’s use of them. The guidance outlined several steps to fight the virus. Along with masks and social distancing, the list includes: Avoiding non-essential indoor spaces; increasing testing; promptly identifying, quarantining and testing close contacts of persons with COVID-19; safeguarding persons most at risk for severe illness; supplying essential workers with adequate personal protective equipment; postponing travel; increasing room air ventilation; and, eventually, achieving widespread availability and high community coverage with effective vaccines. “These actions,” the report said, “will provide a bridge to a future with wide availability and high community coverage of effective vaccines, when safe return to more everyday activities in a range of settings will be possible.”
thanks for waiting until the election's over and advising what everyone else in the world is doing assholes.
FFS, at the hospice in the 3rd world we have been using covid killing masks (treated with a virucidal gel spray) for nearly a month and many in the US are still using cotton bandanas. All a politician needs to do is make mask design competitive, get the gun guys, mums networks and geek groups vying to make masks to protect the elderly.
I always, I mean always, wear a mask where I live(Roomate situation) when outside my room, except showers, or at my trucking terminal. When walking outside, I always have a mask immediately available. I have always worn a mask going into any building, every single time, in the last 8 months. I have worn goggles, gloves, and have even used paper towels while wearing gloves before grabbing a door handle or a fuel pump nozzle. I am not even considered at high risk of Covid complications. Hell, I may have even had Covid in mid December last year, along with my girlfriend, possibly being among the earliest infectees in the US. (We both live in close proximity to DFW Airport). Wear the mask, minimize your exposure to the public, don’t eat foods with your hands, and wash your hands throughly after being in a building other than your home. If you must enter a particularly high risk situation, put on the goggles and double gloves or single gloves and paper towel. Consider using a face shield. High risk is large crowds of people such as holiday shopping after work hours or on weekends or having to be near someone in public who is not wearing PPE, including, if not especially, children. Big bonus points if you take good care in placing and removing your PPE. Easy, peasy, in fact. If enough people learn best practices regarding infectious diseases, Covid will cease being the scourge it is now, not to mention that future emerging diseases and biological attacks will cease to be an potentially overwheming threat.
