the problem here is that the arguments sound reasonable but are nothing more than right wing talking points....yes in theory opening domestic oil production helps create a glut and lower prices but there's nothing to say oil co.s are not going to engage in supply cut behavior to maximize profit. It does nothing against our agreements to buy from the Saudis.....the "all knowing free market" means domestic competition will hurt their pocketbooks but in practice oil co's could give two fucks just like our politicians (insert Biden fist bumping MBS, and Trump/Kushner letting him skate, Tillerson getting a medal from Putin, etc..). the reality is we're just giving them more power as they get to have bigger control of the market share, more power to keep buying off politicians and lobbyists to sell us on the next "reasonable take". They use these moments of pressure to push garbage policies and the public ought to wise up to that strategy and learn to endure a little bit of pain rather than fold. As to the 5$gal question....OEMs know fuel efficiency is a big selling point and adjust according to demand. If 35mi/gal is no longer reasonable, then 50, 60, 70 mpg/work from home becomes the norm... Ana here complaining about 19k$ bolts for a new car doesn't make sense....seems to me to be on the lower end of the ICE range. I have not seen rules to phase out used ICE vehicles yet. I don't think Ana's going to go full grifter/jimmy dore/Dave Rubin....and her takes are on the centrist realm but honestly polar opposite of what she's said in the past.
Indeed. Im not voting for him (Nor GOP) but I think he still he beats Trump or DeSantis based on how states like PA,MI,AZ,GA etc has soundly rejected Trump and Desantis policies in 2018,2020 and 2022.
The old-school GOP knows that and is already working in the background to keep Trump from being the Republican nominee. Simply, they're going to place their bets on others like a Haley or DeSantis or maybe both... DeSantis/Haley 2024 ??? wrbtrader
GOP just needs to run a younger Biden. It'll put off MAGA but may move enough Dems. who'll have forgotten about salvaging democracy and are more concerned w/Biden's age and performance or to simply sit it out if democracy's not on the ballot. Someone like Romney but w/o the never-trump baggage.
The former Maryland Gov would be a good choice but many in the MAGA crowd showed in 2008 and 2012 that they would stay home if a so called Rino was the nominee.
