This should endear him to the African American community.

Biden is right up to a point. The assassination of MLK is more of an event which impacted our U.S. national narrative than the international community. Outside the U.S. the MLK news was not greatly covered (at least when compared to the U.S.) Keep in mind that this was an era where news was very different before the advent of the Internet. Now with the Internet the killing of George Floyd sparked protests in many countries -- not only the U.S. The King assassination protests & riots occurred in the U.S. -- not elsewhere

To be fair... you comment about endearing Biden to the African American community is probably spot on. Yet there was an element of truth in what he said.

The magnitude of the King riots exceeded anything related to George Floyd, and we were on the precipice of even greater social unrest. This was at the height of Vietnam.

James steps out to help Boston power structure avoid riots.

When MLK was killed the rest of the developed world regarded the US as everyone did South Africa in the 1980s.

This is a thing that Americans never seem to get, the US was appalling in relation to other developed nations through the 20th century and large parts hoping to get back to the good old segregation days even now.

There is a history never taught but its worth learning or it will happen again.

Colonial Britain starved millions of Indians during the war, France committed atrocities in Algeria and Indochina, Japan killed 100 million Chinese. Russia starved 20 million Ukrainians. Did I mention fascist Germany and Italy? How about the Spanish Civil war?

Russia, Britain, Japan and Germany in their time were world powers. The US was admired worldwide after WWII for a number of reasons, one of which having not been involved heavily in colonial exploitation.

Now it's true that Jesse Owens had a better chance of being invited to meet Hitler than Roosevelt. The facilities in Berlin for the Olympics were integrated.
