The issue was trademarks granted by China, not payments.

 

So several million of dollars in payment to stay at Trump properties by the government of China. Some of them where the party did not actually stay at the hotel but the payment was still made -- is suddenly a trademark situation. You better go read the recent press about Trump's corruption in accepting foreign money.

 

That's not a gift, it's a quid pro quo.

Now there is much more detailed evidence of Trump's crimes --- in the millions of dollars of gains from foreign governments. When new evidence comes to light then charges and civil cases can be re-filed.
