I stay conflicted over Manchin.Every time I start to hate him I remember he saved Obamacare and twice voted to impeach Trump in a state Trump won by 20+ points.

  2. Maybe you two can still get a room together but the rest of the country will not have to deal with her.

    Just a thought.

And yes there is a dance in DC where every president puts up sacrificial lambs so that the opposition party can act like they are not a rubber stamp and the president hopes that they get their pound of flesh and leave the ones they really want alone.

She can use that energy and work extra hard for her corporate donors outside of government:

It's a job where I would think the main skills needed are management and communication skills. I don't think personal politics should matter so much for this position, but they probably will, it seems.

I’m sure you know but OMB is a very powerful cabinet position. It won’t hurt to have some little known bean counter with a clean Twitter account calling the shots up there either. Tanden would bring a lot of attention with her, kind of like Devos did.

True. But we should look at potential incumbents with an eye to the decisions they'll make when faced with a coin-flip.

It’s ok to dislike Manchin but it’s also important to remember that the seat he is in should rightfully be held by a staunch conservative. Democrats are lucky to have him. He’s a good problem to have.

True.Even with McCains vote Obamacare would have been reapealed if not for him. If a republican was in that seat they would have voted to end Obamacare.

  10. It's a beltway position and she is a beltway candidate so a president does not waste their powder on someone who has no outside constituency. They also know that they can relocate anyone that they want to keep in their circle off into an appointed position.

Yeh, I get that it is a still a powerful position. But he does not gain or lose any voters with or without her.
