Incumbents have a distinct advantage and rarely don’t get re-elected. Claiming the democrats have a deficiency in the quality of their candidates when the vast majority of sitting presidents get re-elected is a disingenuous argument. The truth is democrats will face an uphill battle no matter how poor of a president Trump is and no matter how great of a candidate they have because people do not like change. Trump won a comparatively small electoral victory and has had a terrible time of governing because he does not have the support of the vast majority of the people. Even if the economy stays good (and the fed is pumping right now) he is still going to have a tough re-election with his approval numbers. If he loses it would be a major embarrassment because he will join a sad list that includes Jimmy Carter and HW Bush. Democrats, on the other hand, need to be prepared for another four years of a wanna be mob boss running America like a criminal organization because there’s a really good chance that will happen.
