Better to Penny or Join Offer When Selling?

When you're trying to sell, do you find it better penny the offer or join the offer?

    Given that "smart" computers and daytraders are watching every tick these days, do you guys think it's better to join the offer or penny the offer when you're trying to sell?

    (assume it's a $40 stock that trades 1,000,000 shares a day with .05 average cent spreads.)
