Best way to play a down market

Hypothetically, if we enter a down market, what would be the best way to play it? Metals, Oil, Consumer staples,etc.

 

Gold or metals could be a way possibly . Ex. GLD

Hey, I was even thinking of this idea recently.

 

As for Gold, it would be preferred if you were already LONG from the recent pullback to the $575-$580 levels.

 

Short the brokers and the banks

 

And don't forget about some good Rydex Funds.

what does that mean?....basic materials, building materials what kind of materials are you referring to?

What resources...natural resources? water? oil?
