Switzerland. Specifically the Ticino region. Lugano or Bellinzona. There are areas in both Nevada and Washington that are like that. Thats one of the reasons I have narrowed it down to those two.

Well, depends on what you like. There are many nice places here in Europe, low-tax or low-cost, seaside or mountains etc.

Just wish you Americans would also look outside the US, which is mostly a rather boring country!

Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. Maybe one of the islands. Krk or Brac. Live somewhere near Dubrovnik. No capital gains. US style gun laws. Affordable villas. Direct access to Frankfurt and London.

    Distinct possibility in the future.

Moo,where can a single guy get a furnished studio type apartment with an internet connection quickly and easily without signing more than six month lease?
As far as I can tell, the problem with most asian countries is getting your own internet connection at short notice. The phone companies have so many bad debts they make it impossible to get a quick connection. And they make a big expensive deal out of getting a dope to go to the connection box and connect the two little wires.

  5. hopefully will be splitting time in near future between Costa Rica and Florida. I would love to try Argentina as well.

Have a couple of loose ends to tie up, but will definitely be trading at least 3-4 months per year outside the U.S.

I am also very interested in Eastern Europe. Traveled to Czech Rep., Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey as a young pup in '93 and loved it. Think Poland would be affordable and interesting as well. Wouldn't mind giving that neck of the woods a whirl.

  7. Will probably be married next year, future wife is hip to the idea. She even did a Spanish language immersion study for a month in Costa Rica and lived there with a family.

It's not that hard to do, you just have to be able to make a living off your trading and detach from the consumer/materialistic culture of the U.S..

As long as you have low debt, steady income and a healthy savings amount what is stopping anybody from doing this? It's just a matter of what you want.

Most Americans from my experience (I am U.S. born and bred) want the 2.3 cars (of which 2 are gas guzzling SUV's), 1.5 kids, a 3500 sq. ft. house and Starbucks coffee every morning on the way to the cubicle. All the while they send their kids to daycare for somebody else to raise and so their spouse can go to work in order to afford the payments for somebody else to raise their kids at the daycare. Also they want everything now and are willing to go into enormous credit debt to get it. Oh, did I mention that there is no saving going on either. Well, if this is the case then trading from another country probably isn't going to work anyway.

It's all about priorities and if you don't have a spouse that's hip to it then it will never work. Personally, I wouldn't even rule out having a kid or two and putting them into school in Costa Rica to learn Spanish as well. Not like Spanish isn't a good skill to have here in the U.S.. You just have to make it a priority in order to make it a possibility.

  8. Well said, that pretty much sums up America. Oh did you mention they lease those gas guzzlers, they couldn't afford to buy them. If I could ask why not Panama, it is just as nice from what I have heard and read and cheaper than Costa Rica? Costa Rica, from talking to people is over run by gringos. Sounds like a good plan though

I also could not agree more about the current state of things in America. Nice condo towers going up all the time in Panama City...

  10. Panama is the BEST! WIfe is from there and we go every year. U.S. dollar, cheaper standard of living all around, 3 major airlines service Panama (Delta, Continental, American), 2 hours from Miami and 4.5 hours from New York, modern city with all the comforts of US (one of few cities you can drink right from tap), great food, recreation and friendly people.

Will make it a second home in the future :)
