  1. I've never heard of sager notebooks. Are they known for their quality. There top of the line model seems like great value at $2,995.

  2. Remember with things like that Sager stuff that:

    1) they heat up too much (normal bigass pentiums and super heated videocards are fun .. but NOT in a small case)
    2) 2.5 hours of battery time is badass LITTLE
    3) as stated in point 1, a lot of the hardware is NOT designed for notebooks. You wont buy what you want, promised.

as for notebooks, go with companies that know what they really do.

I checked out the alienware links and if they made their cases somewhat good (which I highly think they did - seen their long time and good name in the computer business) those are good laptops.

Dell makes good laptops and almost sells the most of em, too :)
Sony is known for good laptops
HP, Compaq I've seen people use without big problems

Almost ALL new laptops have a VGA-out card to connect a monitor to. If thats not enough you might wanna check out these USB breakout boxes with their own little video card for an extra screen (that would be, TFT from laptop, 1 monitor from the laptop out, plus one extra from the breakout box)

Also, have you checked out Apple? If its not your system it sucks, but I think alot of companies will have ported their software to be able to run on *nix platforms right now, right?

Powerbook 15/17" are .. well how shall we put it.. "fucking sweet" :) Only drawdowns are price (which is huge (especially in europe)), and compatibility with windows programs (only available through emulators at low speed), asides from that, these are the very very best IMO

  3. I've checked out the HP Pavillion 7000 series. I didn't get one yet but they look great with top of the line setup. Big screen, a little heavy - But that what you get when you have a big screen.

  4. simply awesome.....beats my DELL hands down.

oh, in contrast to DELL, at least they'll tell you that they are a US based Tiawanese computer fabricator firm, instead of a US based INDIAN firm....

frankly all those companies diring/laying off US workers in favor of foreign offshore workers and still selling and expecting to sell to US residents can go oversees with their jobs.

If they're not going to support US residents and workers how in the world can they expect them to continue to patronize their services with impunity to the economic system?

    I smell boycott.....

  5. Windage and Elevation ....Windage and Elevation (The Duke.... John Wayne)

screen real estate and density is not increased with the 17", which still produces a recommended setting of 1024x768, which is a waste for all that size. You can get higher densities, however

    1600x1200 on a 15" using UXGA .... and ...
1920x1200 on a 15.4" using WUXGA beats the 17" every day, every way

  7. And the reason for that is because a portable laptop user would of course ALSO want to lug around a second monitor??

Better off getting a laptop with a higher res display - something like Toshiba's notebook with a 17" 1440x900 display (big screen laptops are much less portable though) or the Dell Inspirion 8600 or similar (3GHz P4M with WSXGA+ or WUXGA hi-res displays).

I got 2 gig of RAM also. I've been using it for about two hours now and I am extremely happy with it. Yes, it weighs a ton (over 9 lbs.) as laptops go, but there are so many benefits here it ain't funny. I go out on the road Saturday for an extended trip and I have several presentations to make so it will get a great test. I'll get to see how this puppy travels. Use on the plane will be rather interesting I think as it uses a ton of real estate. :)
