To clarify this, I mean a price ladder/DOM (depth of market) type interface common to Button Trade, Bracket Trader, Ninja Trader, etc. Thanks
I wanted to post an update on using Ensign for trade simulation. So far, it may be the best solution I've found, especially all being in one package/product. Charting in Ensign is excellent. It has a build-in Playback feature as well as a Sim (simulated) Broker feature which allows you to place orders. It includes AutoScalp and AutoStop features which are simple versions of those found in more elaborate order products like Bracket Trader, Button Trader, Ninja Trader, etc. The places where it could be better (IMHO) are: - the Sim Broker shows a little Summary of your trades, but it cannot be exported or printed. Further, you can't export, print or analyze your individual trades. It keeps a small ASCII log file of order commands but is not useful, IMHO, for analysis. So, there is no way to have a simulated trading session, print out a list of trades and a chart and go back over the trades. - the order interface does not have a price ladder/depth of market interface allowing orders to be placed and stops to placed/moved by mouse clics. It seems there is really room in the marketplace for a product that has: 1. top notch charting 2. ability to replay saved data files after hours with features like start, stop & speed control 3. graphical (i.e. price ladder/dom) order entry, stop control 4. trade logging, printing and exporting (i.e. to Excel) for analysis There are probably many products that do the above during market hours with normal datafeeds, but wanting to do this afterhours/on weekends, etc. seems to create a large stumbling block.
Brooks, NT5 will have all the above you just mentioned. Have you not seen it in one of my Monday after market training sessions? Ray NinjaTrader
Ray, When is NT5 due out? No, haven't been to one of the sessions. I'm not sure we are talking about the same level of charting. The charting in Trademaven, Buttontrader and Interactivebrokers are just not at the same level as Amibroker, Sierracharts and Ensign. Maybe NT5 will be different. I would be surprised. I do believe NT is one of the top order entry/management products. Brooks QUOTE]Quote from shadowpug: Brooks, NT5 will have all the above you just mentioned. NinjaTrader's order placement capability is something beginner will not understand and fully appreciate. Many of its features are great for daytraders and take some time to learn and understand.
Well, you can trade just about any stock at eInvesting.com 24 hours a day. So far you can do pennies and options too, but there is talk of changing that.
Another update on Ensign. Its proving to be quite decent for simulated trading. The Playback and Sim Broker features are pretty good. I've also read that there are some hooks from Ensign to Bracket Trader which would provide a DOM. Have not tried this yet. There is a fairly steep learning curve to Ensign, steeper than Amibroker or Sierracharts, IMHO. The number and complexity of menu, popup menu choices is large. Brooks
