Biggest issue with assent is daily message limits - their infrastructure is not built to handle high frequency automated trading

Wow, i coul not disagree with you more. when i racked my machines in their data center, i got a quick tour.... entire data center is wired with fiber cable, they have the top of the line routers and they have t-1 and ds3's exclusively for connectivity. my tests to-market were under 40 milliseconds too....

of course, if you have a crappy internet connection or use a wireless modem, then its on your end.

i ve never heard of assent having a bad infrastructure, in fact I usually hear the exact opposite!

How many messages are you sending/receiving per day?

As far as I know they have a strict limit of something like 50,000

Their infrastructure is excellent, it is fast, but I have been told that they're not ready to allow traders to push it with very high frequency applications

  4. Why would somebody need to trade at a prop firm besides the extra money they give you to trade with. You still need to put up a minimum of 5K of your own funds. And some propl firms want 25K to open an account. The prop firm commissions to buy and sell are twice as high as the other brokers. And prop firms have outrageous fee's such as desk fee's.

The biggest reason for me is access to buying power that I wouldn't have access to otherwise. And in my case, I also enjoy the support and mentoring from more-successful traders in the same office. The guys frequently help me catch myself before I step into my usual pitfalls.

Does anyone know if there are any programs out there that provide a simple language format or drag and drop system that converts to C++?? I am not a programer and dont know if this is even possible.

Any one from Assent program there own system? How difficult is it, and what was your programming experience?

How does a non-programmer go about developing an idea and backtesting it without working with a programmer??

    Any suggestions??

  7. You need a C++ code generator....and ON TOP OF THAT, you need a C++ code generator that is "trading savvy". Whew..that is a TALL ORDER. Good luck !

  8. Wait ! There is a program out that generates C++ code and it does it by converting simple Excel formulas or VBA code. It's called turboexcel. Naturally, it's at http://www.turboexcel.com . You may get by with the Developers Edition.
Keep in mind, this does NOT generate full-blown trading systems....it's not trading "savvy".

I don't know, its pretty dangerour to do any automated trading if you are not an experienced programmer. The primary purpose of automated trading is to capitalize on speed and if your program misses information or crashes, you could get hammered on a position!

Honestly, if you want to do automated trading... you should find an experienced programmer and work with him. That's just my opinion though.

Assent does use unmanaged C++ code, but you need to come in with a good programmer first. And definitely test the heck out of your algo!!
