Best MIRC free NQ & ES daytrading chatrooms?

Discussion in 'Trading' started by ironj, Jun 21, 2002.

  1. Hi ironj,

Someone here in the past posted a very nice detailed post on accessing any trading rooms on mIRC.

    It was posted by o_2_b_sean

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=62238&highlight=Emini+Chat#post62238

Also, there may be instructions at the Othernet.

    http://www.othernet.org

If that doesn't help or your having trouble accessing any rooms...post again and I'll make a webpage with detailed instructions and images and will send you the link.

  2. Trader5287,

Some rooms are set up differently on mIRC.

Some rooms are setup to encourage lurking (the room ops don't care or don't encourage participation)...such rooms are easily identified because the room ops doesn't trade post and doesn't welcome new visitors.

Other rooms are setup to encourage participation (trade posting, strategy discussion or anything discussed to help someone become a better trader)...such rooms are easily identified because the room ops are trade posting and asking newcomers questions, saying hello, ect.

Some rooms even have public or private script stats that tells them (the room ops) who are participating and who are not.

    Simply, each room is different.

Me...personally, I would rather be in a room of 30 users and most are participating instead of a room of +100 users and only a few are participating...regardless whether they are experience traders or experience users of mIRC.

It's not hard at all to type "Long NQ or ES at so-n-so price"..."Short NQ or ES at so-n-so price".

The lurkers I don't like are the ones you ask them questions and they refuse to respond...even refusing to respond to private messaging.

Then when they get "kicked" and show up again...suddenly they respond and say they were "away from the computer". :D

However...I have yet to figure out why even EXPERIENCE traders log into a room full of lurkers and the only conversation is CNBC sucks type of conversation. Then these same lurkers continue logging in every trading day when no useful info is being posted other than..."The market is up"..."the market is down"..."anybody see that spike"...ect.

I may check out EliteTraders chat room...I didn't know they were posting trade positions in there. I always thought it was for seminars stuff.

However, I tend to stay away from chat rooms that are browser based because they tend to eat up more resources than mIRC.

I'm also curious if EliteTrader chat room has the options like mIRC?

  3. Thanks for the note. I'll take a look at some of the Mirq chats mentioned here.

I've been at financial chat under a different name for several years and there are a lot of lurkers. I also haven't been getting much out of it lately though they are great on news - I swear they post it before it happens!

Please ... the facility is IRC not mIRC.

mIRC is the Windows-based program that connects to IRC servers. There are many other programs that do that too.

  5. Please list such other programs with links...I have no problem with trying another software to access IRC.

A list of window based and/or Mac software would be helpful.

    Thanks.
