It has been a subject I have been interested in for a long time.I am more of a Stoic than a Christian and for the Stoics it is better to die than to live badly. I agree with this. And they thought it better to go a little too soon that risk leaving it until we are no longer able to act. The only loved one I have helped in this way was my dog. Seeing how quick and painless it was my main emotion, other than grief, was envy. Last Friday the British parliament voted to legalize assisted dying so the taboo could be lifting.
Ok, I understand where you're coming from. My Grandmother is in her late nineties, and a very devout Christian. I had a conversation with her when she turned 90, and she said "I wish I would have died when I turned 80. Everything has gone downhill fast since then." At that time she could barely see me and hear me. And the crazy part is that was 8 years ago, and she has since fallen and broke bones, is now completely blind at this point, and her hearing is shot. She lives in a facility and requires 24/7 care as she is unable to do anything for herself whatsoever. The amount of financial resources it has required to keep her alive the past decade is staggering. Sometimes I think it almost seems abusive to provide an elderly person with extreme amounts of medical care and attention because it really accomplishes nothing but extending their suffering.
From Wikipedia: "Assisted suicide is legal in some countries, under certain circumstances, including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, parts of the United States and all six states in Australia." Just look what these countries use, it's the most humane form of exit so far known to man. To save you the trouble, it's sodium pentobarbital: "Pentobarbital (PB) is a euthanasia drug in doses of 2 to 10 grams, causing death within 15–30 minutes".
I think my cousin's wife might have used this method. This was at a time when pentobarbitone was used as a sleeping pill.
Right. I'm an 150+ IQ guy who's on your side (NATO, EU), trying to legalize the inevitability of death. Not like I won't conquer planets and galaxies if you elect me in the next round of who's Hitler, who's Churchill of a good sample of EU votes.
Yes, I agree with the sentiments in part, however I think once we start assisting people to die, it will become a vehicle that will be used by persons and institutions will abuse for the much younger and much less infirmed.
I'm pretty sure you can find a mercy killer who will do it promptly. Just don't make it too much effort for them, perhaps a balcony or next to a busy train track and express your political persecution and other notions. One Christmas Eve, when nothing was especially wrong, I found myself on an empty motorway at 2 a.m. I floored the car, sensing it was a rare opportunity. The speedometer hit its limit at 150 MPH, but the car was on a downhill slope toward the sea, probably going closer to 160. In that moment, it occurred to me that I didn’t have to do anything, just not take the upcoming bend. Of course, twenty minutes later, when I was reversing into the parking space at home, the speedometer cable broke. It was as if the universe had decided I'd had enough cathartic release, that moment of it was all actually my choice, and gave me the anticipation of an awkward, tiresome job instead.
"Best method to off oneself"? Volunteer for the Russian army. Death is pretty much guaranteed in 30 days of less.
