I need a new computer and want to get a laptop with a 17 inch screen.

What is a good low end machine, and where can I get it?

Also what are the best deals on wireless connectivity? I may get rid of my home phone and get a cell, my current contract is up.

Is wifi generally reliable for trading? I am doing this because I am planning a trip to Miami for a week or two to Miami in January.

  3. Lenovo Thinkpad T Series - just because of the keyboard.

It doesn't flex at all. It's the closest keyboard to a desktop, period.

  4. macbook pro, hands down

  5. I've liked the dell latitudes for laptop-as-a-desktop

Just get one that has quiet fans and doesn't overheat. IBM thinkpads were the best, I suppose Lennovo is the same.

  8. i have the 1000, like it, not god for trading. amazing for surfing, checking mail, light tasks (watching hulu, porn)

  9. Call Gateway, ask for their refurbs.
I got a 17" fully loaded. Vista Home Pro works great on my trading apps.
    $750 shipped, with a 1 yr warranty!
For that price you could buy 2. I did, one for me and one for my wife.

  10. if it is going to be a replacement for a desktop and not carried around lik the first born, then get a 20 inch. I got an Acer in that size and it is a remarkble piece of equiment..... if you do not have to carry it around that is. :D
