Best Foods to Eat (Health-wise)

  1. Read up on the type and make up of fat in grass fed vs. corn fed, there is a huge difference. It is the same with wild salmon and farmed salmon, wild is much healthier for you. And besides animal fat, including saturated fat is good for you in moderation. Wild game and grass fed beef is usually leaner than grain fed animals and the fat content is lower in saturated fat and higher omega 3's.
    What is your view as a vegan on taking cod liver oil.

  3. Bison (buffalo) is remarkably lower in saturated fat and cholesterol than beef.

    The same trend holds true for most 'wild' varieties of animal proteins: Ostrich, elk, venison, kangaroo - all much lower in saturated fat and cholesterol than beef.

    You can get necessary trace minerals such as zinc, along with iron and B6, in these other 'wild' red meats, also. More importantly, you can get necessary amino acids - that one has trouble obtaining from anything other than 'red' meat, from these 'game' meats.

    Cows and sheep have been bred to be fatty, with less and less striated muscle tissue than wilder, leaner animals. Bison have quite a bit of striated muscle - they still must be able to run quickly and suddenly if the herd is threatened by predators, or if they have to quickly run through treacherous waters filled with aggressive predators (i.e. crocodiles).

    Beef cows and sheep (lamb) (cows - mostly hereford and angus) are now docile, as they are protected by ranchers, and have been bred free of the need to react and move suddenly and quickly when threatened. The ranchers protect them with fencing, and even when grazing, accompany them with firearms and herding dogs that protect the flock.

    this is just the minerals. Look at the vitamins! The vitamin content of simple iceberg lettuce is sooo much greater too than an equal calories of wild game or beef.

  9. I hear you bro. I felt the same way at first. Believe it or not, your taste buds get used to the natural foods. Without the constant bombardment of chemical additives, flavorings, etc, your senses become more acute. After a while, they are just as pleasant to eat as any other food.

    Take tea for example. You can't compare tea to soda. Most teas have a very mild flavor. But eliminate soda for a few weeks and you'll gradually recognize the different flavors that teas have.

    There's always a place for the junky stuff as long as it only represents a very small portion of your diet. The problem with society is that the average person consumes their own body weight in sugar in a single year.

    In the tea example, most people make tea with 4 pounds of sugar. What's the point? Just drink a soda.

  10. I agree, your body gets used to the new foods you eat and after awhile you start to crave things you didnt think you ever would. Like right now, I am craving some steamed asparagus (Its becoming my new fav veggie these days)!

    Also, I dont see myself ever giving up meat and fish, I just eat them in moderation and focus on eliminating junk foods and processed crap from my diet.
