  3. Its my favorite coffee. But the best coffee is the one you like. I have a friend who's wife is from Hawaii and her uncle sends them coffee from his coffee farm. He says it's great but hasn't given me any to find out for myself.

  5. I personally think that the best coffee is probably Coffea Giesha, or Coffea Montecristo... (much nicer taste than any of the coffea arabicas and coffea robustas you find in your regular coffee shops...)

You can get them from coffea diversa...

  6. I'll give you my one line thought of DD. Go buy a donut, they "throw it in the bag". They don't fold the bag closed, they just "throw it in the bag".

Now go into MCD, the bag is folded, that small manuever speaks volumes. No detail is too small.

  7. See. Somebody said it better...this is what I'm talking about.

    A hundred little things
One of my favorite restaurants is a little Mexican place in Utah called El Chubasco. I've often eaten there twice in a day, and once (it's true) ate there three times.

It's always crowded. Sometimes people wait outside, in the cold, even though there are plenty of alternatives within walking distance. So, what's the secret? Why is it worth a drive and a wait?

No specific reason. The energy of owners Jill and Craig is certainly part of it, but most customers never encounter them. I think it's the hand-fitted gestalt of thousands of little decisions made by caring management out to make a difference. Usually, when a business like this gets bigger or turns into a chain, marketers make what feel like smart compromises. The MBAs collide with the mystical, and the place gets boring. "Why do we need 14 free salsas when we can get away with six?" or "Perhaps we ought to stop handing out huge tumblers of water for free--our bottled water sales will go up."

This turns out to be the secret of just about every really successful enterprise. Sure, you can copy one or two or even three of their competitive advantages and unique remarkable attributes, but no, it's going to be really difficult to recreate the magic of countless little decisions. The scarcity happens because so many businesses don't care enough or are too scared to invest the energy in so many seemingly meaningless little bits of being extraordinary.

  8. How many cups of coffee do you drink? I ask because I found this interesting..

    http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf201702h

Shows that people who drink four or more cups of coffee daily have a 50 percent lower risk of Type 2 diabetes. And every additional cup of coffee brings another decrease in risk of almost 7 percent.

I've heard this before but the specific mechanism was unknown. But now..

They identified two categories of compounds in coffee that significantly inhibited hIAPP, and they believe this is the reason regular coffee drinkers have a lower risk.

    That's very interesting..

  9. I feel DD was better 20+ years ago. Also, their quality differs from 1 store to the next. Some stores get it right, but when it's wrong, it tastes like piss on a radiator.

  10. I agree. They used to brew the coffee with small coffee makers and the it had a great taste... although I noticed about 10 years ago or so started using big commercial brewers. For myself, it made some difference in the flavor and it became a watered down taste. ( or maybe they just simply cut down amount of beans used to make a pot for increased profits )Also the beans were flavored themselves, now they add a flavor syrup for such kinds as french vanilla.
These made a difference in the quality.
