I'm sorry but Christmas songs drive me absolutely bonkers. I don't know what it is (??) I must be allergic to them.
Yeah, well sort of my feeling too. Is it just a matter of too much of anything? Or is it a cultural thing? Or are we (you and I) just not able to stay "festive" for any length of time over one theme? Yeah, they drive me nuts too. And I KNOW that some of the traditional songs are really good songs. Drummer Boy, Silent Night, White Christmas....all truly good tunes. All traditional too. So I don't need The Boss or John Lennon to do their magic to make me appreciate that there is good music involved here. But there definitely is something annoying. I guess it really is the repetition. I was working the Graveyard shift in a casino in Las Vegas in my younger days. Must have been about 3 or 4 in the morning. Not a soul at the tables. But the tables were manned and the PA system is playing non stop Christmas music. No one is talking (rules). All of a sudden, one of the dealers (and a devout Christian I know for a fact) SCREAMS out as loud as he can....MAKE IT STOP!!!! There is something grating about it. Why can't it be for a few days? Why over a month?
