NOTHING is ever free. Some brokers offer "free" trading platforms and "free" live quotes, then charge more than others for transactions and margin interest. Some brokers offer lower transaction fees, but use a "smart" router that is smart enough to route orders to where the broker gets paid for order flow, not where the best execution will take place. It's always a balance and the trader/investor needs to be informed enough to choose what's best for them and their trading style. Our clients are willing to pay for their trading tools, platforms, fair execution/interest fees based on volume and in return get the choice of two Prime Brokers, the choice of many platforms, the choice of where their orders are routed and a high level of customer service normally reserved for large hedge funds. Unfortunately to provide this level of service, we can't accept small retail accounts. So when ever someone is looking for the "best" broker for their trading needs, the answers is never simple.
