I am surprised no one mentioned PX90? Is PX90 High Interval Training without all the running? http://wiki.dandascalescu.com/reviews/fitness/p90x_faq
Nitro, I believe I did mention p90x. It's an offshoot of cross fit training. Same basic idea. The advantage is that you can usually do this type of training in your home with minimal equipment vs cross fit which usually you need to join a gym to use all sorts of equipment.
Ok thanks. I wonder how people stay motivated on it though. One has to be very disciplined to do it on their own, imo. I would probably do ok on it, but I think most people need external motivation.
Yeah that is always the problem. It's probably not an issue at the beginning as early results will usually be enough to keep you motivated. It's when you start to go sideways that you lose confidence and start having trouble motivating yourself. The cross fit programs in a gym really go out of their way to make it very social. You do stuff in teams. they make it competitive. They post weekly results for members to see. And they do stuff outside the gym together. So it becomes a lifestyle thing. The downside of course at least in the Chicago area, is that it is very expensive. The reason being that they usually have to have very small classes and only offer it during certain hours.
Not really - once you see results after the first fews weeks (and you should) that will be all the motivation you need. It's getting past the first few weeks when you see little progress, thats the hard part.
I've done P90X and it's a good program that will deliver results if you follow it. But any program that has you doing an hour a day, 5 days a week of high intensity training will get results. The problem is that it's repetitive and after 90 days you either do it again or find something new. Crossfit really is a lifestyle thing. It will change the way you think about fitness and exercise, and it's evidence based, not marketing. Also endless variety. You could do a different workout every day for a year. Going to a crossfit gym is more expensive than a normal gym, but that's because it's more akin to having a coach training you in an athletic program. $150 a month I think is pretty typical. The results will be worth it though.
Crossfit beats P90 as it's primarily CNS/compound lifts and runs. I've done Crossfit (last Summer) but stopped as there was too much rest and too little emphasis on progressing with resistance. For those in decent cardiovascular shape it's a great routine. Don't expect to put on size.
two things not mentioned in this thread: - coconut oil and water - a lot of direct sunshine the coconut oil has 900 calories per 100 grams. super healthy for ALL organs of the body. coconut water is the best isotonic. great source of potassium and other minerals. sunshine is what produces vitamin D which is actually a hormone. and that hormone is needed to produce testosterone which of course helps muscles to grow.
Yes! Coconut oil should be in all diets. I dissolve COQ10 in coconut oil and use CO in place of butter. The MCT in CO is used as fuel, not stored.
