I find RAID 1 to be kind of a pain in the neck... I don't use it. And if you're considering RAID with SSD's, the cost escalates. If you lose a drive with RAID 0, you lose EVERYTHING!
I'll need to look into this a little more (obviously ), but if I can make this work, I would much rather have a "mirrored backup" inside my laptop instead of having to restore from an external HD. Also, if my primary HD fails due to mechanical errors, then I can't use that drive anyways, so I definitely want more than 1 HD on my laptop. Thanks, gnome.
Maybe that depends upon how quickly you need to restore your rig and at what cost. If you need to be up "immediately", you'll want a RAID 1 setup. For much less cost, you could restore from external media in about 10 minutes with Acronis True Image. USB flash drives are large enough today that you could "image" your trading rig to a flash drive. If your hard drive got corrupted... boot from the CD, then "restore image" from the flash drive. But if your hard drive failed, you'd of course have to replace it before restoring image.
