Bernanke heads into the unknown

  1. WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Ben Bernanke, the Federal Reserve chairman who's made a career out following the rules, may have to throw the rule book out this year.

    Bernanke, who would like to set monetary policy based on a rigorous economic model of the business cycle, may find that the old relationships between growth, jobs, interest rates and inflation have broken down.
